    Re: Oh Well, Bye, Bye

When I go into the hive and if there are still a lot of bee's, can I take a frame with a queen cell on it put it in a NUC, with say 3 more frames of brood and honey, or, is that crazy talk.

    Oh Well, Bye, Bye

So I thought things were going perfect. Hive made it thru the winter, I reversed the top and the bottom box, put some empty frames in and added two supers. Just was out side and I heard bees buzzing....

    Re: Second Super, when?

So I love the drawn comb idea. However I only have drawn comb for deeps, but not the supers, that’s another issue. I do crush and strain too so unless I’m missing something I will never have drawn...

    Second Super, when?

    First the question:
I’m starting my fourth year of beekeeping. I have only gotten honey once and that was during the fall flow (33 pounds.) This year I had a hive make it through winter ( I treated)...
  5. Re: What feeding ratio for new nuc in CT/Feeder Tweaks

I have the same feeder too. I had a lot of dead bees my first year so the next year I lined the inside with #8 hardware cloth. I was surprised how well it worked. It was for 10 frame deeps....

    Feeding

    Hi,
I have 6 deep frames of honey in the freezer. I知 getting another nuc and a package shortly. If I put two frames in each deep, two for the nuc the other two for the package, is this enough food...

    Supers in CT/Northeast

Just wondering about adding supers in CT\Northeast.
I reversed the deeps on a hive a couple weeks ago. The top deep after I reversed it was almost empty. It now has 6 frames of eggs, larva and...

Re: Frams of Honey or Top Feeder

    Thanks for the response Michael,
I figured the bees needed extra resources (feeding) to build out the foundation in the second deep faster.

Frams of Honey or Top Feeder

    Hi,
I am getting a package of bees to try out again. I get nucs, but this year I wanted to try at least one package. The first year of beekeeping (2012), I had very bad luck with packages...

    Re: Reversal and Feeding

Thanks everyone for your responses. I figured there was enough honey in the hive, I just didn’t know if the bees would move it after reversing the hive. Just wanted to give them head start....

    Reversal and Feeding

    Hi all,
I reversed my hive yesterday. The top deep had brood and honey in it, probably weighted 50 lb and lots of bees. The bottom deep was pretty empty and had hardly any weight to it.
    I had a...

    Re: Is this goldenrod pollen?

Been seeing the same pollen in my area for a few weeks.
I was thinking it was Rose of Sharon, which has been blooming in my area with force. Just a guess.

When I compare how the frames fit in the boxes I built to store bought equipment, the spacing of the top bar to the inside edge of the box appear to be the same. They have just enough room, perhaps...

    OK, I知 one for two.

Both my hives were up and running in March. One hive had a much smaller cluster (on top) than the other one. I noticed over the weekend that one hive had no activity, so I went in. Hundreds if not...

Re: Did you get honey your first year

First year (2012) 2 packages lost both hives by September.
Last year started with 2 Nucs, got 31lbs of honey. One hive seems strong now, the other has very small cluster. Hope it makes it.

    Congratulations:
Just did my first one too. One shallow, 21 pounds of excellent honey. Same method as you. We had a lot of fun. Got one more shallow to do.
