    Re: Earwigs....

I've called those earwigs since I was a kid. They do pinch, hurts worse than a bee sting in my opinion. I've only ever seen those on top of the inner cover.
  2. Re: robbing screen problem, not sure what to do

Put them on and don't look for a few days. Always a couple dead bees, but the vast majority figure it out. The key is not to look.
  3. Re: will vigin find her way out and back in robbing screen?

    Yes, she'll be fine.

    Re: Robbers.

Build yourself a robber screen. They work very well, and would take less than 10 mins to build. Do a search here on Beesource.

Re: Please help dont know what to do.

Nothing to worry about all the hives I looked at today we're doing it. I see it as a good thing, lots of bees.

    Re: Swarm

Right. Sounds like a plan. Ideally I'd find a frame that's got brood in all stages, capped to eggs.

Re: These bees are wearing me out!

I try to do most of my assembly and wood working in the winter. Use winters to get ahead and strings/summers are more fun ;)

Met him in Colorado Springs a couple months back. Sounds like he's still in the business, just a smaller operation now.

Re: letting the bees clean frames

Put them in a super and put it on one of the hives. Option 2, put them 30-40 yds away, but don't put them near your hives, it will cause robbing.

Re: I just got scared by that bee

Lol I had the same thing a minute ago. We've had earwigs around the house for a few days now, some sneaking inside, so I thought it was an earwig crawling on my iPad when I saw it out of the corner...

  14. Re: Africanized honey bees reach and over winter in Palisades, Colorado

Bad news. Maybe they didn't actually overwinter here and were brought back from CA like it says.
  15. Re: Help, my hives keep throwing swarms. What do I need to do?

Here's my experience... Once they start casting swarms, there's not a lot you can do to stop it. Checkerboarding, splitting, and opening the brood nest are all good practices. Start doing those...
  16. Re: Splits: what are the girls doing while waiting for their emergency queen to emerg

I try and do splits just before the spring flow. As a result, they put up what I think is a lot of honey for the number of bees in the splits. I think your assumption is right, they transition to...

    Need queens in southern Colorado?

I have two BWeaver queens coming Tomorrow (maybe Tuesday) that I don't have a home for anymore. If you're nearby Canon City I'll sell them for my cost.

    Re: robbing?

22's description is accurate, but it's quite scary if you ever see a full on frenzy. 10's of thousands of dead bees, dead hives, and it goes on for days. Avoid it at all costs, and take immediate...

Re: No ice for bee sting

Ice makes them swell instantly for me. Pain isn't usually an issue for me as much as swelling. I got stung between the eyes a couple weeks ago, no ice, no swelling till the next day. I had to prove...

Re: Let's hope this year they thrive

They're probably supersedure cells. Very common for package bees to supersede the queen. It's not because there's anything wrong with her but because the workers perceive her as failing due to the...

Re: Should I re-queen this hive?

I'm sure there's lots of exceptions, and others will point those out, but in my experience the queen less half of a hive after splitting is sometimes grumpy till they make one and she's laying. I'm...

Re: What is this? (Half bee)

Found one the other day myself, crawling on the hive stand. Consensus on here is that they're getting their butt pinched off
when doing an inspection. I did not damage this bee, hadnt even opened a...
