    Re: "wet" supers

Yeah wax moth in the hive is the least of my problems! haha. I keep my stuff in an air tight "bee house" and they still wreak havoc. I recently began leaving the light on 24/7 with good results.

    "wet" supers

What do the bees do with the remaining honey from extraction if I put those supers back on? Do they move it down to the bottom boxes or just tidy it up in that upper super?

Re: N. IL. When to go to 2 deeps for winter

Firerescue, with your method my concern is causing a late swarm since it's still warm out and they have huge populations. This happened last year and is what made me ask.

    Roland, Then I'm guessing...

    N. IL. When to go to 2 deeps for winter

Using all deep supers. When do you guys knock them down to 2 deeps? Do you do it after harvest and not return the empties to them? Or do you give them the empties until a certain date/temp?

    Thanks...

Thanks for the answers guys. I do not have the rests yet. Ordered them from dadant with other stuff and order status is "processing" since last Tuesday. I built my boxes (myself) using the plans...

    Re: Quick spacing question

The old style has a rib that holds the frame up about 1/8th inch vs the frame sitting flat against the metal. I guess it evens out, if you use them on all boxes. Raises bottom frames then next box up...

    Quick spacing question

Do old style rabbets/ frame rests vs plain make a negative difference in frame height? I.E. my supers are 9 5/8, can I use the old style? The top where the frame rests is 5/8 inch without any metal.
  9. Re: Watch out for green lumber at Lowes and other box stores.

Big Box= Bad lumber. We had a builder use Home Depot for an apartment building. Every stud split and cracked as we nailed. Very twisty etc. It used to be a problem of too dry. Now it looks like the...

Re: Snow in the bottom entrance.

Thats the answer I was hoping for. Thanks! I guess the main reason I asked because I was worried about trapping in moisture by blocking air flow, even with the upper entrance. It's freezing rain now....

    Snow in the bottom entrance.

OK, second guessing myself since I went against my leave em alone rule. The hive (2 deeps) is facing directly into 50 mph gusts. So, when I went out to do chores and decided to plop a handful of snow...

    Re: wind power generator

Well, the rule here is that they are to be 1400 feet from the house. I would bet one of them is exactly that. There are aprox. 10 within a half mile of our home.

It's not on our land it's in the...

    Re: wind power generator

Ace, it's not a noise that you can record. The wind farm used that against us. It's more of a bunch of different sounds that are always there. It's really hard for people who live in town to...

Re: A great video about the Bee Dance

That was cool. The weird part is that it doesn't seem like the bees are all sitting around watching the guy give directions. So then, it is cool that they can gather all that info out of the corner...

  19. Re: Ok, whats the oldest hive body you have and still functioning?

Well, thanks to the throw away society that we live in today. Walmart, China, whoever you want to blame, it still sucks. I'm 36 yrs old and wish I lived back then. Compare me to my brother, they buy...
