    Re: Mouse Guards

But there are no drones during winter, so no worries using 1/4" hardware cloth.

    Re: Hive in Trouble

Feed them and let it be, if they survive the winter you will have a very strong hive in spring. Thats really all you can do, hope they survive.
  3. Re: Powdered sugar treatments on a Warre

Never done PS treatments, but seen an old boy in Germany do it. He turns His boxs upside down and dusts them. A friend of mine in Taiwan does this.
A couple of other things I found, on varroa...

    Re: Hive Post Mortem

If you have a dry basement, cover that box with wood over and under. Store it with the comb for next year. Put the other emptys on top for weight to hold it down tight. I put mine in the darkest...

  12. Re: First year - First hive...enough to harvest?

Yes, you can always rob the top box in spring when the Dandelions bloom. Then nadir 2 empty boxs, and let them have at it again!
  13. Re: First year - First hive...enough to harvest?

I say leave them all three boxs for winter, and add a box in the coming spring. Thats what I will do with mine if they are lighter than expected.

Re: Crush and strain honey comb !

Kelbor, there was no brood in the boxs, only capped and uncapped honey. The honey that was uncapped was cured enough, none ran out when tipped. When you reduce Your hive's, check each box for capped...
  16. Re: Can't tell if this is robbing or normal...(video)

Rox, I saw one bee run off, you need to reduce the entrance with a block of wood. Make it about 3/4's of the opening in length. That will make it even easier for them to defend.

    Re: Price of Honey?

    I get 4.50 a half pint, 8.00 a pint, 15.00 for a quart. Some here ask 5, 9 and 16 for the same amounts.

It is just starting to bloom here, and our clover did real well and is still producing. We also have Aster and many other wild flowers blooming here too.
