Re: Do bees utilize reed canary grass pollen?

My bees work the johnson grass around my hives heavily. Some days the whole field will be buzzing as they collect the pollen.

    Re: Flow™ Hive management question

Don't tell my bees this. I have some of my bees overwintering in 8 frame single boxes. They do just fine like that around here. I bet they would do fine like that in much of australia as well....

Re: Any problems with your commercial vaporizor?

The head on the varrocleaner comes loose after a couple of dozen uses, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it dosn't fail, I can't afford another one. I would reccommend buying the more...

    Re: OA Vaporization during summer

All of my hives have the standard 3/4" rise. Is it possible that my vaporiser is running too hot?

Re: Inspection debrief for a newb

The hive beetles may have come with the package or may have flown in, they are everywhere in the southeast. I don't bother with diatomaceous earth, if you put it where the bees may contact it you...

Re: Whiten up the comb--how to?

I would spray them with white paint. They will be whiter than when freshly drawn and clean as a whistle, so white ya gotta wear shades:cool:.

    Re: OA Vaporization during summer

I always clamp the vaporiser shaft to the bottom board to make sure that it is held flat. It still melts the plastic frames in the 2 1/2min burn time:eek:.

    Re: 3M Hi-Strength 90 Adhesive

Will it hold when the aluminum heats up in the sun and expands and contracts? It might not hurt to shoot a few staples in as well.

Re: Leaky Syrup Jar Attracts Voles

Are you talking about voles or moles? Moles only eat insects and worms, voles eat plants and seeds. Don't know which you have.

Re: Is It Necessary to Remove Robber Screens?

Don't use 8lb. the bees will chew through it and haul it out of the hive. You will be wasting your time.

    Re: Queen less maybe?

It's a defensive warning posture. They were saying BACK OFF. I would not worry about the queen. Even if she is gone, which I doubt, there is not much you can do about it right now.

I hold the marking tube in front of the queen and herd her into it with the plunger. With a little practice it becomes very easy.

    Re: Drumming a trap out

There are products such as Bee Quick that are effective in chasing bees but do not smell offensive (at least to me) that could be used to flush the bees from a wall.

    Re: Roaches

Roaches are very common in and around my hives, they don't harm the bees.
  25. Re: If a hive has a laying worker, how long will that LW live?
