    Re: Laying workers and EFB

    Welcome!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by '5 medium hives and one 8 frame NUC'. Please explain how many supers are on each hive and how old the hives are. Do they have enough stores for the...

Sticky: Re: squarepeg 2015 treatment free experience

SquarePeg, thanks for your explanations...What is the purpose of the third 'empty' super going into winter?

Also, what are your average first and last frost dates? Your growing zone?

    TIA...

    Re: Dragging out drones?

Sounds reasonable to me...Do the sugar shake soon. Be sure to get nurse bees from the brood nest. :)

    Re: Dragging out drones?

My guess, from 1500+ miles away and over the keyboard, is it could have something to do with Varroa Sensitive Hygiene.

Your report of wingless drones and your observation of bees removing drone...

Hello! We live in a hot location and replace the standard entrance reducer with hardware cloth during the summer, leaving half to three quarters of an inch as an entrance. I feel better about it...

    Re: Major Problem

It is difficult to know what actions are best until you have hindsight on the issue of mean bees and possible attacks on neighbors. I would find a way to move & requeen them, and not kill them if at...

Re: Swarm Control Made Very Easy Apparently

I'm all in for new science. The best science is peer reviewed and the best ideas are replicated to test for the same results. I see this paper was written nine years ago. How was this paper...

Dipping sounds efficient for coverage, but not necessarily speed...How much is too much residue left from dipping? Do you adjust the mixture of water and insecticide? I wouldn't dip until I read...

    Re: Swarm Queen Not Laying

    Jeff, that is great news!

The whole story will be told when you see capped brood and verify capped worker brood with a good brood pattern. :)

    Re: Requeening above an excluder

Lauri Miller mentioned that trick, but it was not using an excluder. 99% of virgin queens could not go through an excluder. :)

Re: Queen over heated maybe ????

Queens do not do well in direct sun. I have seen a healthy queen die in two minutes in direct sun. I hope your queen lives. But, if you see supersedure cells, leave them alone. :)
