  1. Re: I have to get rid of my bees (one hive) any tips?

    Thanks for the responses, everyone!
I think, after talking with a member of my beekeeper's association, I'll probably hold off on making a decision to get rid of the bees until next spring.
  2. I have to get rid of my bees (one hive) any tips?

The bees were wonderful and a lot of fun up until I got pregnant. Since then, they have been very aggressive. I'm not sure why, but it seems I can't go into my garden these days without getting...

Re: When should I take vacation?

Ok. Thanks very much for the advice. It's good to know that it will be easier to take care of the bees than my dogs or even my fish. : )

    When should I take vacation?

    Heyo,
My husband and I are planning our summer vacation. I was wondering: is there a time that would be best for us to leave our bees for a week or so? (not more than 9 days) We hope to go sometime...
  5. Re: New beekeeper interested in chemical free treatment

Wow, I really didn't expect this many replies! Thanks for the advice everyone.
I have quite a lot to research now: IPM, beehive companion planting, etc. There's always more to learn! :)

  6. Re: New beekeeper interested in chemical free treatment

When I start gardening in the spring and throughout the summer, I'll apply a spray of onion, pepper, and garlic to my plants to kill the tomato worms and aphids and such. I don't like using a lot of...
  7. Re: New beekeeper interested in chemical free treatment

cg3, thanks for the tip. I'll do some research on formic and oxalic acids.
Rusty Hills Farms, thanks for the advice on bee species. The bees I'm getting will be Carniolans. I picked them because I...
  8. Re: New beekeeper interested in chemical free treatment

Thanks for the reply fritz_monroe. I have checked out the treatment free beekeeping forum here, but I'm not so much interested in going treatment free as I am in just not treating with chemicals.
  9. New beekeeper interested in chemical free treatment

    Hello all,
I'm doing some research before my very first package of bees gets here in late April. I'd like to be able to treat them without pesticide-type chemicals, but I need advice and suggestions...

    Re: Newbie from Northern Ohio

Thanks samoadc. I have read the city regulations, two or three times actually. :) It's not illegal and I don't really think my neighbors will mind too much once they get used to the idea.
    Funny...

    Re: Newbie from Northern Ohio

Ok. Thanks. I actually just talked with one of my neighbors and he said that, years ago, someone kept bees two doors down from me. I'll probably talk with them.

    Thanks for the replies.
Dan, I'm glad to hear of someone else in Lorain County. Do you live in the city of Avon? I ask because I live in the city and have been a bit concerned about how my...

    Newbie from Northern Ohio

    Hello all,
I just started beekeeping (or I will in April when my bees come!) so, consequently, I've just started reading this forum and decided to join. I'll have one hive to start, but I'm told...
