Using Sugar Shack with Brood Break

I am starting a brood break before re-queening with the hopes of reducing mites. The Colonial Beekeepers suggest a sugar shake at 24 days since the mites are all emerged and on the adults or frames....
  2. Re: kill all my queens in production hives for maximum production?

Isn't this what Mel Disselkoen is doing with his OTS system? You would just stop short of making splits with the original queen spite later? He adds the step of making splits with the parent hive...
  3. Re: Harvesting leftover honey in spring, any suggestions?

ToneTone I had a lot of honey left this spring from a dead out and I took two frames and used the crush and strain method and all went well. Check to see if it is crystalized and if not you can...

Coming Out of Winter Hive configuration

This is my first year with a hive coming out of winter. I had two deeps and one medium ( I added the medium of honey to get them up to winter weight, both deeps had honey but not full). I have not...

    Re: Top entrance question

I use my telescoping covers (with no inner cover) but have removed the (1 x 2) end (and bent the metal cover out) and put shims in like M. Bush. Works Great. In the winter I put a quilt box with an...

  10. Re: Mobile Apiary - Does Moving Hives disrupt them much?

I was thinking that each place may only be a couple of weeks since the bloom season is so short. The areas I was looking at are along major highways and a small airport where they have large expanse...

    Re: foundation less frame extractor?

Newbee question, if you put rubber bands or wire around the frame while you extract would it be of any benefit? It would be messy but might save the comb?

Re: How to build cheap top bars.

I cut mine to length so they would be more manageable and I wanted to make my end cuts first just like "stdavis" did in his pictures.

Re: How to build cheap top bars.

I made 36 of these on Sat. from 2x4 lumber (cut down to 1 1/4" x 1 1/2"), it took me about 2 hours, there are a lot of cuts but the results are worth it and the strength is much better then 3/4...

Re: Jesus agrees with Michael Palmer

Are Michael Palmer's teachings/methods written down somewhere? I have watched some videos, but they don't stick with me until I read them or apply them and mid-winter is no time to apply them.

Re: Collecting and storing pollen - tips?

Thanks Merince, I thought that must be it but I was thinking the trap rested on the edges, I will give it a try.
