Re: 10 frame deep swarm trap

That is the set up have used to catch several swarms the last couple of summers. I have had about the same level of success with or without LGO or queen pheromone.

    Re: purist

Enjoy Beesource, it has helped me tremendously in my quest to get off the package treadmill and establish a sustainable treatment free apiary.
  5. Re: Trying to sell in a local hobby store, ran into some... problems.

Unfortunately she is probably correct with regards to what the seller needs to do to put honey on a store shelf.

I am not familiar with Wyoming's law but here in Wisconsin it is exactly like...
  6. Re: Should I add a wooden bottom board under the screened one for winter?

I leave my sbb's open all winter and have found this to be effective at managing the moisture.

    Re: Lid absorption enhancement

Since I started leaving the screened bottom boards open in the winter I have not had any winter losses from condensation.

Re: How to transport my bee hives

I like to move my hives very early in the morning, but late evening will also work. I duct tape all of the joints between the boxes and the bottom board. This keeps thing from shifting when moving...

Re: Honey yield per hive in northern wisconsin

I would say that I average about 32 lbs of honey per 10 frame medium. If they are really packed I have extracted as much as 36 lbs.

    Re: Over reaching

    Moon,
Good luck with your expansion. I would suggest getting some supers for the hives that you overwintered, you might be surprised how quickly those overwintered colonies expand in the spring.

    Re: Unlimited Brood Nest

I switched to ULBN 3 summers ago based on MB's advise and some of my own observartions with how the bees struggled to move thru the excluder. I have had a noticable increase in honey production...

    Re: foundationless beekeeping and drones

I only have about 3 years of foundationless experience, like the others have stated, once the bees build what they want for drone comb they will make mostly worker sized cells in the brood area.

  19. Re: Advice on encouraging a struggling hive to build comb (?)

I would move two undrawn frames in between the frames with brood in the bottom deep until the bottom is full and then do the same in the top deep. This works to encourage foundationless comb...

  23. Re: Is "foundationless" the biggest BeeSource 2010 Hoax?
