Re: Sturdy & Useful Hive Stand

We have a friend in the scaffold building business. He made these from some rejected scaffolds he had. Great stands.

Re: Could there be two colonies in this wall?

Gotta be one. You don't usually see two colonies vertically in the same wall. On the other hand, comb started at the top often extends all the way to the bottom.

Re: How's the flow going for you?

Northwest Louisiana is terrible. Too wet. Last year's spring flow was terrible because of the long winter.

Re: tips on obtaining land for apiary

Recently, we were in need of a new yard and exhausted all our convenient contacts. Therefore, I went to google earth and did a flyover of the area we wanted to use. It needed to be convenient and we...

Re: Swarm commander: Does It Really Work?

When I use LGO and go to hang a box this time of year, the bees are streaming through the entrance before I get it hung. I like LGO.

    Re: Brushy ventilated jackets?

I've had one for a few weeks and like it. It's light and, paired with the zip-on clear vue veil, it's a good combination. The fabric is thick enough that you will NOT be stung through it. I worked a...

    What could possibly go wrong?

Monday night, a new customer showed up to purchase a five-frame nuc of bees from us. It was his first colony and he was excited. We put the colony in a homemade wooden nuc box. It was a very large...

I've tried them all and, in my opinion, the clear vue veil is the ONLY way to go.

Re: Colorado NewBee catches first swarm

Way to go. The swarm traps are filling up here faster than we can hang them. Saturday, I hung two traps on trees from which I had removed swarm-filled ones the previous day. 24 hours later, they were...

  16. How long before inserting your queen cell do you make up your mating nuc?

I have read that some put the queen cell in as soon as the bees, pollen, and nectar are inserted and I have read that some make it up 24 hours ahead. What do you do and why?
  17. Re: This is what a queen that produces MEAN bees looks like.

The other five hives at that bee yard are very gentle, and their queens mated in the same area.
  18. This is what a queen that produces MEAN bees looks like.

We finally decided a hive was too hot and needed to be requeened. About three weeks ago, we put queen excluders between the boxes. Two weeks after that, we moved the box with the queen fifty yards...

    Re: Honey Container Prices

Thanks, SilverBack. I contacted Dahletch and can get the same number of containers and lids with caps and shipping for .38. That's so much less expensive than either Sailor or Gamble.

Re: Looking at a 35' high removal.

We have a 20 foot extension ladder. If that won't do it, we don't do it. Anything higher than that isn't worth the risk to us.
