  2. Re: Bees swarm 4 days after installation.

    [QUOTE=BeeRanger;1272953]

Sorry for the persistent amount of questions, but I really don't have any "professional" beekeepers(not that I've looked that hard) in my area....
  3. Re: Maxant 3100-H (hand crank model)... Should I order?

grozzie has a good point. if i were planning on extracting 4 this year and bought the manual then i would have a record harvest for all 8 plus 7 more new swarms, and break something in my shoulder at...

    Re: Hive problems

go to the usda beltsville md. website, read how to send in a sample of dead bees and do it, there is no charge. i doubt that your bees were poisoned, as stated robbing plus maybe something else.

    Re: Too late for packages?

things are late this year as usual. it is not too late yet. we are getting close to earlier would have been better. i called a gentleman back last night about some nucs a few weeks late, he was at...
  7. Re: Bees swarm 4 days after installation.

a nuc is supposed to have enough food for now. sometimes [too often] they do not. you are safe for now with 2/3 of a deep frame or a full medium frame of honey both sides capped. beyond that feed or...
  8. Re: Bees swarm 4 days after installation.

if you have no drawn comb that makes a nuc look a lot better. sometimes the mass produced southern nucs do not have the greatest queens. if you are not happy then re-queen later in the summer.
  9. Re: Bees swarm 4 days after installation.

in a month there is not much difference between a nuc and a package especialy if you have some drawn comb to start the package. there is a lot of variation between side by side hives. yes nucs maybe...
  10. Re: 2 new packages with a couple of questions

your other questions, i am not sure what to make of your goo subject, i still am horrified by " treat the package with antibiotics right away". different hives build up differently. on average...
  11. Re: Maxant 3100-H (hand crank model)... Should I order?

the maxant and most other brands use the same extractor for both electric and manual. the vivo is imported, its electric drive is name brand imported, maybe even a bit better than the one maxant...
  12. Re: Bees swarm 4 days after installation.

for a package i use the equivelent of 2 of 5/8 holes the first month. for starting a new nuc lees than a 5/8 hole is enough. if the hole is plugged up with bees [not robing] trying to get in and out...
  13. Re: Bees swarm 4 days after installation.

for a new package cover or get rid of the screens. put some drops of lemon grass oil on the top of a few frames. greatly reduce entrance size. beekeepers are more concerned about ventalation than the...
  14. Re: Maxant 3100-H (hand crank model)... Should I order?

i bought a vivo 4/8 electric this winter. i tested it it seems ok. some of my brothers know the maxants they are master metal workers. the maxant really is the best, the metal is much thicker. sadly...
  15. Re: 2 new packages with a couple of questions

if someone is telling you to treat with anti-biotics right away big red flag. panic, someone is likely covering up american foulbrood. you do not need to treat with antibiotics unless there is a...
  16. Re: 1st time for requeening and have some questions

on a nice day so the bees have stuff to do, you lay the queen cage on top of the brood box frames. watch for awhile, the bees will hang around the queen, they will come and go. if after watching...
  17. Re: 2 new packages with a couple of questions

i read your post and did a search to find out what in the world duramyicin is, evidently some kind of poultry treatment for respritory problems. this idea is kind of way way out in left field i...

    Re: Honey may have fermented

taste it. sometimes you get a fermented whiff from a few cells that fermented, when extracted and blended it is fine or actually real fine.

Sticky: Re: diy oxalic acid vaporizer

i agree with snl. i hope our friends do not impose energy efficentcy regulations, the amount of power saved would not amount to much.

    Re: Honey may have fermented

if it is crystalized it is not likely to ferment, taste it. the actual moisture content may vary a bit. 17% is safe. about 22% is high, most often 18 or 19 is ok.. to re-liquify put it in a warm...
