  1. Re: Fundamentals of beekeeping: Cost to get started

Sounds expensive but if the 64 dollar tomato saves you one doctor visit @ 150 you saved $86. We spend so little on food and so much on health care.

    Re: Extracting Others Honey

You are right without sterilizing the equipment there could be some spores left behind but the number of spores would be drastically reduced just by cleaning and using a disinfectant between runs. ...
  3. Re: What does extracted sugar syrup honey look and taste like?

The OP merely wanted to know how to tell the difference between honey and sugar syrup.

Re: Bees won't draw any wax

In expansion mode they will. If you could have a translator for bee language to know when or shortly before when that they decide to go from expansion mode to swarm mode you might have something...

Re: Driving a swarm out of ceiling joist ideas?

I am pretty sure the floor/ceiling joist are not mortar. They may have gotten in through the brick but there has to be another way into the structure. Once in they are in. The entrance is of no...

    Re: Extracting Others Honey

These are some very good questions. By law I am not sure you can sell (as a hobbyist) someone else's honey with your label on it. I suspect it happens though. It would seem a point of origin would...

Four frames would be silly to put in an extractor.

    Re: Extracting Others Honey

That is one of the evils of beekeeping. Low equipment usage at a high cost.

Re: Driving a swarm out of ceiling joist ideas?

Ouch, flooring is more expensive than drywall and wall paper and in the case of hardwood much harder to match. Obviously the potential customer wants things his/her way. It may not be possible.

Re: Bees won't draw any wax

That is normal. I wouldn't extract the honey. Just pull out a couple of outside frames and replace them with the foundation. If you do split later on or they eat through most of the 11 frames left...

    Re: Hawaii hobbiest

We don't tax honey in NY. It is doubtful they would tax it in Hawaii. You can't just collect sales tax without being a vendor of the state. It requires filing for a number. And then you are on...

    Re: Extracting Others Honey

    Re: Black Comb

I will take a wild guess that those doing crush and strain don't use excluders. The frames get intermixed and really black comb doesn't occur.
