So last night on Duck Dynasty they were attempting to gather honey from a hive. A few things disturb me about this episode. First of all this hive was hanging from a tree limb not inside a hollow...
find the queen thats laying drones and kill her....replace and enjoy. Been there done that! I dont think they will supercede her, at least mine didnt. Almost cost me a hive!

in looking in my hives this weekend i noticed one that had no brood and an almost empty lower brood box. i did see a queen but it was not my marked queen and she appeared very skinny. I figured she...

Yea I wondered about the direct sunlight issue. Besides SBH what else do we need direct sunlight for? It seems the bees know it's daylight and are bringing in plenty of pollen so far.
Yes shb did come to mind but since it's concrete under them they can't get to the ground to pupate right? They are also facing west and was concerned about the wind.
My concern is the bees will think its not raining and get out and get in the rain and die. This was an old dog pen and thought it might work out well.

You don't find it odd that different hives in different locations are behaving similar?
No I'm not sure it's the same queen. They haven't bothered me at all till this week. I may have to dig and see what's there. I'm not sure that te africanized bees have reached here yet
My brother and I both have a couple hives that are about 17 miles apart. He called me yesterday telling me how he tried to mow around his hives and the bees came after him. As usual I thought he was...
