MJC417, it is actually one of the methods used to stop robbing. But you have to know which hive is robbing.
Ive tried it and it works. But as Gypsi says i usually give a couple frames of CAPPED...
Ive had good luck with exchanging the places of the two hives. If I can I give a couple frames of bees to the weak hive as I'm switching places. The weak hive gets all the foragers and a couple extra...
I think we are a little quick to assume that the hive has laying workers.
You said you see normal brood too mixed with drone brood? And there were queen cells that you were cutting out? There is...
She looks okay to me. Let them decide if they like her or not. Supercedure queens are the best in my experience. I would not replace a supercedure queen with any store bought queen before giving her...
Those are queen cells but not great queen cells. More likely than not the bees are going to supersede the queen that comes out of those cells if she manages that far.
How strong is your nuc? In my...
Here's what I would do.
Take a frame of brood almost capped, a frame of feed from your good hive. Put the new queen in it. Put them in a nuc/ hive and place it on the hive stand of ur problem hive....
Had started 2sunkist(not cordovan) and 2vsh nucs last summer. They all are doing great. I think sunkists are stretching their stores too far. Vsh are more cautious with stores. Sunkists are the...
A member Drobbins had put together swarm and bloom times on his website. Hope it helps

Hello everybody!
Another PA beek here. so nice to see everybody is doing well.
Mine are doing well too 10 out of 11 made it so far. Now if only these maples/crocus start blooming...:waiting:
So I ordered 5lbs of Dutch white clover from outsideprime.com. Thanks for the info guys.
Does it reseed itself? I can sow it 2 yrs but just curious.
I checked outsidepride.com They have white dutch clover and white miniclover seed for sale. Which one should I order? I am thinking if I can help the bees with miniclover and still make the side...
The white clover in other parts of the farm is going good but is more of a weed (not planted) and too thin. The bees are taking full advantage of it. July here is tough and my friends are feeding...
The yard has grass growing good so not a chance to scratch the surface. I will try to find a local source or use outsidepride.com
I thought it is somewhat drought resistant can't water it...
They are on a 100 acre farm so no problem with walking barefoot. I will try and find a local supply store but then I just need a couple pounds. I can probably spread some in the horse and goat...
Thanks I will broadcast it. Any suggestions for a place to buy seed?
I was thinking of seeding the grass yard around my hives with white clover seed. Do I just spread the seed and water it? What's the best way?
It's about half an acre area, could be more. The farmer...
Oh man... That's heartbreaking. Hope u find out what happened and avoid it in future.
The first 2 are of a sunkist queen, the last 2 are of VSH queen. I think you are paying too much attention to the dot, the queens are of a different color. I have ordered 8 queens this year.
Okay so it worked. She was laying in that push in cage. Bees seemed friendly so I released her. Everything looked okay. Thanks for the input. Appreciate it. I had to tear down queel cells earlier...
Thanks for the great queens Dr Russell. Just thought I would share my good experience.
Sunkist queen cordovan? I dont know. I ordered the regular one....
Thanks Dave, who feeds her? Or does she eat herself in emergency? I saw her dip into an open cell as soon as I released her into the cage.
Okay I made a push in cage and put her in there with her 3 attendants from the wood cage. She was running around quite a bit in the push in cage. Hope she does okay. The bees seemed a little more...
No I have her in the regular 3 hole wood cage. I'll make one out of wire mesh :-)
Yes I had to close off the candy side with a piece of wood. I had her on top of the frames I changed the queen cage to fit in between two frames. I cut out the empty frame a little and faced the...
Yes I'm pretty sure, because they are starting queen cells( 3 ) I will remove them next time they were too small yesterday. It's a 4 frame nuc I'm confident that I checked it thoroughly.
