    Re: Fleet Farm Beekeeping Supplies

We went to the Appleton store on Sunday to take a look at what they had...... A long stroll through the store and a 1/2 a shopping cart full of other stuff to find out that the beekeeping stuff...

    Re: planers

Have you checked craigslist? Sometimes you can find a good used floor model cheaper than a new bench-top because not many people "need" a 18 or a 20" planer so they don't sell fast

    I have a Delta...

    Re: Fleet Farm Beekeeping Supplies

I haven't heard that yet.. I have an insider in Appleton that I can ask on Saturday.

I would venture to guess that the list of knowledgeable beeks they will have on payroll will be small. But it...

Re: Clearing snow from the entrances.

Thank you all for the information.

I will likely make the awnings this weekend and the rim boxes before next winter

Re: Ok..Tell me what you think.....

I agree....your observation chair needs to be much closer. other than that i see no other concerns that haven't been mentioned earlier

    Nice work!

Re: Clearing snow from the entrances.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions!

I'm not quite ready to drill into my boxes either.

I like the idea of a rim box. I have some questions

I assume that i still need an inner cover

Re: Clearing snow from the entrances.

I have thought about putting awnings on but I have a couple of questions. Do you keep the awnings on all year? If not will the change in the appearance of the front of the hive confuse the bees?

    Clearing snow from the entrances.

It seems that one of my hives bought shovels for themselves. This hive has kept their entrance clear so far this winter. This was a cut out that I did last spring. They must be Wisconsinites

    Welcome to the forum.

I am a newbee too so I would only be able to tell you of my experiences.

I would look for a local beekeepers club and join.

    Have fun

    Re: dumb questions?

    Before we ordered bees:

    We bought a few books.
We checked a few out of the local library
    I got a mentor
I asked my mentor several questions
I became a local bee club member.

    After we had...
  15. I think this is a wax moth larva now what are my options?

I didn't notice any evidence of this when I was in the hive 4 days ago. I wouldn't know what to look for anyway.

This was on the landing board today.

    Re: Charring some old boxes

The almost part of this was what worried me. There were 4 supers and 2 deeps that were still in good condition so it wasn't a huge loss. To me the reward wasn't worth the risk.

    Thanks Steve

    Charring some old boxes

I decided to take care of some old boxes and frames that I got in a deal for an extractor. I took a good look at them and they were still solid but.....

I would have a hard time using them. The...
  18. Re: Attempted a cut out today but have a question (added vid)

    Well,
I guess i need to be more observant each time i'm in the hives. I must have been so focused on finding a queen I overlooked all of the signs that she was there! It's only been 4 days from...
  19. Re: Attempted a cut out today but have a question (added vid)

It's hard not to take several peeks a week!

We did open the hive on 5-23 and found that they had drawn out nearly all of the foundation-less super frames. We did not find the queen. They don't...
  20. Re: Attempted a cut out today but have a question (added vid)

    Sorry for the late reply!!

Mr Beeman nailed it...my personal preference also is to keep the entrance reducer on until the hive is strong enough to defend itself.

I have been accused of over...

    Re: Mowing around hives???

  23. Re: Attempted a cut out today but have a question (added vid)

    Well,

I think the cut out went well. Total felt stings was 7 among 4 people.

I still don't know for sure that there is a queen in there. I am guessing so because i did see a small march and...
  24. Attempted a cut out today but have a question
