Re: Hogan handhold: revised and improved, pics

Thanks for the info Mr. Hogan...I build your jig a few years ago and made countless hand holds with it and has gotten a little worn so it is time to make another one. I will try this on the next...

Re: Bald Faced Hornet got his butt kicked

Good job for the girls...And yes I would put an entrance reducer on. If you are still having fairly warm days go with the 4". Put the smaller one on when it starts to get cold.

    They finally made a queen!

I have been struggling with a queen less / laying worker hive since June. After 3 failed attempts they finally made a queen. 2 weeks ago they had 5 capped queen cells on 1 frame. I left for work....

Re: Gulf Coast, when do they slow egg laying?

I hope you didn't accidentally squash the queen.
Although eggs can be hard to see sometimes. I find it helps to have the sun at your back and hold the frame up at a slight angle to let the sun shine...

    Re: Macnine Washing Ventilated Suits....???

I have the ventilated jacket from Mann Lake. Washed it several times on gentle cycle and let it air dry. Haven't had any problems.

    Single Deep

I have a few single 10 frame deep hives that kinda struggled through out the summer and are now looking really good. There are a lot of bees in the single deep. I wouldn't say they are crowed. I am...

    Re: cut out question

Are the frames drawn out or just foindation? Two deeps at once is probably to much space to give them at one time. With winter right around the corner the more empty space the bees have in the hive...

Re: wax moth larvae spotted now what

A strong colony should take care of them. If your colony is not strong reduce down to only enough frames that the bees can cover. Reduce the entrance. Also check around the top cover for any cracks...
  13. Re: Another queenless and LW problem.....Check my notes.

I am hoping that is why they took the egg out of the queen cup. Because a new queen hatched and they don't need it anymore?
  14. Re: Another queenless and LW problem.....Check my notes.

Thank you JRG for the reply. I will wait the three weeks and see what happens.
  15. Another queenless and LW problem.....Check my notes.

I was wondering if some of the more experienced would take a look at my notes and tell me what ya think. I have been dealing with this hive the last 3 months and they just don't want to make a queen....

Re: Question for the board re: Hive Beetles

The screen bottom boards with the oil tray underneth work great. They catch and kill a ton of SHB's, and don't alow the colony to have more comb than they can cover will help.

Re: Opinions on a late split

3 frames with queen cells. I would make up 2 five frame nucs instead of 1 double nuc. Put a frame with cells in each nuc. Better chance of one making it over the winter.
  21. Re: Which screened bottom board SHB trap is best? Freeman or Green beehives?

I havent used any of the Freeman traps but I have several of the Green Beehive traps and I like them alot. They catch alot of beatles. Its a metel tray that opens from the back. The screen is #6 hard...
