Having folks pick up Nucs already in waxed cardboard boxes. Just curious as to how long can they stay in these boxes...as in how many days would you feel comfortable having them in the boxes,...

None in North Alabama yet. Going to start putting the feed on them heavy next week. That should help them get going.

  5. Re: beetle blaster vs beetle jail. which is better at catching shb's?

I line of roach bait in each chamber.
  6. Re: beetle blaster vs beetle jail. which is better at catching shb's?

I use roach bait in the push tube. I have used oil, too. Don't recall a fill line really. 1/4 to 1/2 inch in the bottom should do. I got to where I didn't like the oil because of spilling when...
  7. Re: beetle blaster vs beetle jail. which is better at catching shb's?

I've got 20+ beetle jail jrs. I have used others. All are just as successful as others. I decided on more beetle jail jrs because of how sturdy the plastic is compared to some and how easy they...
  8. Re: Dead out came back to life once it warmed up

Same experience a couple of year ago. Had a nuc that appeared dead. The day I checked them really wasn't that cold. Other hives were out and about. Placed the nuc box in my Expedition and headed...

Re: How many hives can one person manage?

I manage 30. 15 for nuc sales, 15 for honey. I do have a decent amount of freedom in my schedule, though. The "typical" 9-5 person would have a hard time with this many.

    Need 35 queens

The group I buy queens with each year decided to wait until early February to place their order. Our supplier can't supply more than 150. I've upped my need from 15 to 35, so I'm unable to buy with...

Do it with fume boards and excluders every year. Never had a problem. By problem, I mean an extra minute or two on the closers super to the excluder never bothers me. Also, if you'll learn to use a...

    Re: Sugar price down??

It's definitely a lot cheaper now than a year ago. I now remember paying $13 for 25lb Great value brand bag at Walmart last year. WM doesn't carry 50lb bags it SAMs does.

    Sugar price down??

Am I mis-remembering? A 50lb bag of sugar at Sam's is $16 now. My brain keeps telling me that a 25lb bag was almost that much 2 years ago. Am I losing it or is sugar really down in price this year?

I would go with 1: the one that started the attack(s) on others and 2: the one that others agree is wearing them(see Sharpdog's post above)

Re: Colony Losses In The Southeastern States

28 hives. Lost 2 but 100% my fault. Starved out. I overwinter in single deeps and allow them to keep all mid summer(cotton) and late summer(goldenrod). Was surprised I lost 2. These hives just...
