Welcome to Beesource neighbor.
Laura- Check out OTS splitting method at mdaslpitter.com. It refers to taking the queen and two frames of brood to create
a new hive. Take the old hive an notch the cells and let them raise their...
Rick- Look at a hollow tree trunk with bees. Then you decide!
Lauri- Just a thought, I use a lot of double deep 5frame langs, if you put them on 2x4's like Inbjr suggested
it might work out to be a nice little setup. I love your idea.
Hello Brian, Sent you a PM if interested contact me.
aspen- Close up the dead colony to prevent robbing. Then put your pkg. in it, when it arrives.
Jonny- Perfectly done split. Should have notched a frame or two of 36 hr or less to raise a new Queen, but they will
do that on their own. See mdasplitter.com Mel Disselkohn's OTS method is great.
Laura- Feed the bees their own honey back, creamed like fondant. Doesn't get any better than that,

It is an excellent wood preservative. The co. also makes "Coppercoat" preservative might help...
Rick- Mel improved upon C.C Miller and Doolittle's methods and it beats the varroa cycle if you
have that problem. It relies also on July splits, which give you good young queens going into
winter.
6010, Give Mel Disselkoen's OTS splitting method a chance. It really works.
Rail, I don't go into my nuc hives much until spring. Then I usually have brood in both boxes with honey and pollen on outside frames.
Never opened them up in summer to look. I use 2x12's for boxes...
Rick, Yes a 5fr deep is the same as a 8fr medium. Two double deeps should yield you honey and will overwinter just
fine in Iowa. I use them exclusively.
Adam, You can purchase woven burlap at a fabric store. Cut into pieces to fit top bars and leave a
2" space in front for the bees to come up and feed on cremed honey or fondant. Use a rim not an...
