    Color of brood cappings

    Hi everyone.

Do you look for a certain color on brood cappings to alert you to possible brood disease? I have a couple of hives that aren't doing as well as I'd like, and it just so happens that...

  3. Best option for getting a laying worker hive to accept a swarm queen?

    Howdy folks.
I was asked to retrieve a small swarm last night, and it was actually perfect timing for me. Turns out one of my hives is queenless and appears to have gone laying worker on me. To...

Re: Putting hives in a swamp

the high water marks from a big storm like that are good guides, especially if he went a foot higher.

i like the barrel and deck idea with some slack in the ropes holding the barrels in place. that allows the platform to rise and fall similar to a boat dock. ever think about making a big platform...

Re: Putting hives in a swamp

a 100-year flood only means that there's a 1% chance of it happening in any year, not that it only comes around once every 100 years. with climate change accelerating things, those 100-year storms...

    Queenright colony with laying worker?

    Howdy folks.

Came across something weird in one hive. The hive is definitely queenright because I saw her walking around in there. But I also saw some cells that had numerous eggs in them...
  11. Re: What does evidence of a hive being sprayed by vandals look like?

actually both the hives were pretty strong. one was a split from mid-april that had filled out a single deep with a second deep just added. i saw the queen in that one (wasn't hard to do since...
  12. What does evidence of a hive being sprayed by vandals look like?

I visited an outyard with 2 hives today. One of them had a bunch of dead bees out front of the hive and no sign of queen cells from a split that I did 2 weeks ago tomorrow. Queen cells may have...
  13. How many frames of bees before newspaper combine is needed?

I would like to move a couple of frames of bees from a removal that I did last weekend into a nuc that needs a little help. How many frames of bees can I shake/add in before a newspaper combine is...
  14. Re: Need advice on repellent to spray after removals and cut outs......

i've started using bee quick to get the stragglers out so that homeowners can at least do the repairs. depending on where it's located, i also recommend to them to fill with insulation.
  15. Re: What price to charge for strong beehives I have to sell?

i know this will be an unpopular opinion with some, but if some of your hives were from swarms, how about just giving the bees (not the woodenware) to someone that wants to start beekeeping? i've...

Re: What kind of brood disease is this?

thanks for the input. we typically dont have shb in my area, so i hadn't considered that.

ETA the slimy stuff is what i pulled out of the capped cells. it wasn't resting on top.

I didn't keep any of the brood or comb to be clear. Too risky since I knew it had been sprayed.

What kind of brood disease is this?

This brood comb came from a removal I did yesterday. Can someone help me identify it? I don't think it's AFB because of the consistency of the fluid in the cell. It's a brown watery liquid instead...
