Re: semi hauling bees over turns near home

Most commercial beekeepers that I know haul their own bees. I think that after working bees during the day and then hauling bees at night a person could be really tired.

Re: semi hauling bees over turns near home

I read an earlier article about this crash and the reason they didn't try saving them was because the boxes were a total loss. The truck went off the road and slid on its side for 75'.

Re: Honey straws. Will this work?

Yep. The ends of the straws seal really well. In my eyes to well. They don't pop open with just a bite on the end like the ones I've had in the past. From what I've read that's par for the coarse...

Re: Honey straws. Will this work?

How's your heater working? I was having good luck with the one I bought (listed above). I made about 150 straws but now I can't get a good seal all the time. I'll try replacing the wire and see if...

Re: Identify tree currently in Bloom?

Sorry I can't help you, but I'm curious also. We have one just like it here in CA. It drops a lot of pollen and the blooms don't seem to last for to long.

    Re: sugar syrup

Honey-B-Health aka HBH will help preserve syrup for a couple months if kept in a cool place so I would think you could get 4 or more months if your keeping it in the fridge.

    Re: Foggers

I've heard the same thing from an experienced beekeeper who swears by Amitraz.

Not knowing anything about vaporization and oxalic acid, is it possible to vaporize oxalic acid with a fogger? I...

Re: My Queen Wants to Live in a Penthouse

I would shake the bees down into the lower two boxes then put a queen excluder on top of that then stack your supers over the queen excluder. As the brood emerges the bees will back fill the cells...
  11. Re: How to stop bees from drinking pool water

I've read in a previous thread folks using anise oil to help attract them to the new watering hole.
  12. Re: Cleaning the Propolis from the tops of feeder jars.

Would a strong grain alcohol work? I know if your making a tincture you dissolve propolis with it. Maybe a citrus essential oil like orange or lemon?

    Show off!! :)

I like the way the dovetail joints extend out. Reminds me of a log house design.

    Re: Frame Question

Yep. One of the manufactures even took it a step farther and trimmed the upper sides to a point so there was less contact with the next frame.

Re: make creamed honey in mini fridge?

I sprung for a $30 wine cooler off of craigslist after reading all the advice and an article in the American Bee Journal. It has a dial not a digital temp. I wished it had the digital but oh well. ...

Not sure. I was in a swarm hive a couple days ago and found 3 carpenter bees dead. I'm pretty sure the bees killed them.

Re: Mite drop after oxalic vaporization

    Good to know, thank you.

Is it as affective? I'm picturing in my mind having to crawl around on the ground as I stick this thing into each hive. Instead I can make a spacer shim with a notch...

    Re: Possible laying worker swarm?

    It doesn't sound good.

Sometimes when a new queen starts laying she may on occasion lay doubles, but its rare. If you leave that hive to do its own thing it's only going to get worse. I've...

All my hives are on migratory pallets using 3/8'' shims. Is there a vaporizer that will work? It seems all I see a made 1/2'' thick.

    Re: Possible laying worker swarm?

  23. Re: Well another milestone reached! Just got stung by a queen!

This might sound like dumb question but does it hurt when they sting? Do you think she was reacting to the scent from the previous queens?

    Re: Italians outpacing Carniolan

I've noticed that also. This is my first year with Italians and I've noticed if I don't keep room in the hive for honey you'll swarm in a heart beat.

Re: Trucking Co to haul honey in midwest?
