  1. Re: What ratio of sugar water do I feed these bees?

Thanks for the advice. I may call our neighbor back and ask about his hummer feeders. (I wasn't going to put feeders on the hive - he had
just asked if I could feed them so they wouldn't bother...

    Re: D Shaped Handles

Why not use a dado blade or router? Using a grinder on wood doesn't sound like a great idea.

I stack mine a good ways from my hives and let them clean them up. Seems to work really well.

Re: How long to dry honey?

I've dried honey exactly like you are doing and I found that it takes a day and a half to two days to drop one percent in moisture. Good luck!

Garlicbee (sounds much better than garlichoney by the way... :) ),

I recently extracted four medium frames and it took about 4 hrs - including setup and cleanup time. I would allow at least that...

    Re: Foundation for comb

I'm trying some comb honey too this year, but with shallow frames. I used wedge top bars, solid bottom bars and then melted beeswax to hold the foundation in place (no nails). It really worked...

I completely agree. The new site looks nice, but still needs some serious tweaking. I have found it to be quite frustrating.

Re: Honey in 2nd Brood Chamber = Honey Bound?

That's an interesting thought - especially since some of the honey looks like it might be crystallized. Anyone ever done this?

Re: Honey in 2nd Brood Chamber = Honey Bound?

No I haven't. I am a first year beekeeper. A local, very experienced commercial beekeeper that I got my bees from told me that the strongest flow in this area typically comes in July - largely...

Re: Honey in 2nd Brood Chamber = Honey Bound?

Honey in 2nd Brood Chamber = Honey Bound?

If the second brood chamber of a hive is 100% capped honey, is it a potential problem? The first deep brood chamber looks very healthy and is a great mixture of eggs, brood, honey and...
