    Best way to move grafts?

I have a queen I want to graft from and she is five miles away from my cell builder. What is the best way to move larvae or queen cups from queen to cell builder?

    Re: nuc prices?

I don't know that I would have destroyed the queen cells. They may have been supersedure cells to replace early mated queens.
  5. Re: Foundationless from the bottom up............

I always move a frame or two they are working to the new box. It gives them a ladder and a guide.
  6. Re: Put 2nd Box with Foundationless Frames on Today - What to Expect?

Just take one of the drawn frames out of the deep and put in the middle of the super and let it go down into the deep they can use it for a ladder. When they start drawing a frame or two in the super...
  7. Re: Since 1980 this is the worst April Non-flow I have every seen...

I check a few hives today and they are filling the supers with necter and drawing new wax. Sunshine sure makes a difference. Now I need to get busy and put on more supers.

At least you got maples. here in Mt Juliet our early maples froze out. Everytime something starts blooming here it rains and washes it out. I put supers on some hives and the bees haven't even gone...
  9. Re: Help, 2 week old package bee hive, lost queen

The queen is probably in there and hasn't started to lay yet. But if I were you I would put a frame with eggs in there before I went out of town just to be sure. You don't want them to go that long...

Re: What I learned this weekend

If you do have two hives that are queenless they should be making emergency queen cells and will be ok if all goes ok with the queens getting mated.
The queen was probably up in the supers laying...

    Re: Queen with spotty brood

It could be caused by a brood disease like EFB she may be laying but the diseased larva is being carried out by the attending bees.

Re: What I learned this weekend

Are you sure the cells built between the frames were not drone cells? A queen cell is not usually attached to the frame beneath it. And were worker bees gathered around the bees you say were queens?...

Re: When to add a super, new package

Two 8 frame mediums is an awful small brood area for a growing hive. Better put you a swarm box in a tree near by.

    Re: Tricking the flow, timing?

You can try open feeding if you want the bees to act like a flow is on. Sometimes they will take syrup open feeding when they won't take it from a hive feeder in cool weather.

    Re: Two New Queen Questions

Do you have another hive that you could get a frame of brood from and put in there? That would help until you get a queen.
  22. Re: How much propolis does your bees make?/ Green drone frames

Sometimes bees will do excessive propolis if they are being tormented by SHB or mites.

    Re: swarm control methods

Do they not start queen cells in the medium with the brood above the excluder with that seperation from the queen?
  24. Re: Have my first Queen Cells - Now what? ***Pictures***

I would put a laying queen in there if I could get one. Queen cells on drone comb is kinda unusual.
