Swanzey is a great place for bees! Does your friend have bees too? It seems like every time I turn around, I meet someone else in town who has bees!

scorpionmain and Batman....hahaha so I either have a little tramp or a queen! I guess either works! All my other queens have been dark Carniolan crosses...and she's my first Italian...so I wasn't...
I did an inspection yesterday and got a nice closeup of the queen...never noticed before...it looks like she has a number 3 or maybe a letter E on the next to last segment of her abdomen...anyone...
Yup! Washboarding! They are scrubbing, cleaning, polishing the hive...
Here is a video of two of my hives taken yesterday evening after a long hot day....one hive was "washboarding" and the other fanning to circulate the air in front of the hive...I so enjoy watching...
Thanks! Looked at some photos online and I think you are right! Now I have to get some!
Can anyone help me identify this tree. I'm assuming it's an ornamental tree as it's planted in town alongside a parking lot. The bees were loving it...I was driving by when I heard the buzzing and...
I add 5lbs of sugar to a gallon milk jug...then top off with hot water....then shake until dissolved...and maybe a couple of times after that if any sugar settles to the bottom...this year I also...
Yeah, I'm heading up to get them tonight too...I have a few friends waiting until morning...but with chores it's hard to get there until late so I'll just run up tonight. I didn't know they took...
Hello! I'm just north of you...in Swanzey, NH...got my first hive started last year...and I'm getting a package tomorrow, too! (NH Honeybee) I installed from a nuc last year so it's a first for me...
Thanks! I had another beekeeper here yesterday....she said the hive was looking great and I should definitely start up a nuc as soon as we get a warm day....which doesn't look too promising, at least...
I know how you feel...I'm a little further south (sw NH), first spring as a beekeeper....and we have had an abnormaly early spring (so far)...I'm lucky that I haven't had any swarms (last year) but...
My first spring as a beekeeper...best of all the girls made it though winter and are doing well...I did an inspection a few weeks ago when the weather was almost 80...that doesn't happen very often...

Hello! I'm a new beekeeper who got interested a few years ago after noticing how few pollinators we had in the yard...and this spring I finally decided to go ahead and jump in with both feet.

What do you use as an entrance for the top box? Is the notched inner cover enough as an entrance/ventilation or should I drill a hole in the upper box? And if I need to drill a hole what size is...
