Re: Assaulted by the opinion lady...

Wow. You house them, protect them, doctor them, build more housing for their relatives and even feed them if they're short, and all you ask for is some honey rent money. What was she talking about?...

Re: thinking about a first try with a mini nuc

I am curious what you found in the cutout, eggs, worker brood? If it genuinely is laying worker, I would suspect it was that way when you got it and they attempted to supersede with unfertilized...

    Re: Major Problem

Bostonrob, I am guessing your biggest lesson in this is not to post questions anymore about issues to avoid the harsh responses. People can be as testy and demanding as bees sometimes. I don't...

Re: Re-Queened now I have queen cells

N, Your first cell is close to emerging, if it hasn't already, if you saw one capped on the 16th. Get them gone if the queen is laying and wait till next spring when you have more resources, time...

  6. Re: Can't Find The Queen & New Queen Is On The Way, What to Do?

I thought to respond yesterday about shaking every frame of a hot hive, how they will really be happy then. I feel for you on that one. I hope no one lives nearby. Did you close up the top shaker...

    Re: Huge Mistake = Robbing!

Move the hive if the robbers are getting past the screen.

It's going to be hard on you because the house bees will not be able to figure out how to get back in for a while because of the robber...

    Re: Huge Mistake = Robbing!

It sounds like you have to feed them, so robber screen is needed. If they have some resources, you could feed them at night with enough that they empty the feeder before daytime. Watch them close...

I wouldn't wait for robbing tomorrow to put on the robbing screen. They're coming back.

    Re: Three Months, First Problem.

I'd be curious if you had it swarm and now the empty comb has been cleaned out waiting for the newly mated queen to lay.

Re: Bees have brood over honey - fix for them?

They will most likely move down as fall/winter approaches and fill what's above them that they aren't using for brood anymore. The lower stores will probably be used for brood and relocated as they...

    Re: Bees Not Moving Up?

If you still have a flow coming in, moving a frame of drawn comb from the 3rd box up to the new box would encourage them to go up and draw comb, unless they don't need any space. If there isn't...

    Re: Help with some nuc's

5 frame x 3 isn't so bad if you have them safe from wind, but feeding with a jar through the top would give them more room to grow instead of the frame feeder. After 3 are full, going to a double 10...

    Re: A dilemma...

Man has always had a problem with ethics and keeping them, but we have steadily been in a decline as a society for a while now. It's because we have mostly rejected the source of true ethics, or...

    Re: So many questions

I have mostly been foundationless and don't find it a problem having bees draw out frames when they need the room. As squarepeg wrote, moving a frame or two of drawn up to the new box prompts them...

Re: Queenless, or so it Appears

If there was a swarm and a new queen was successful mating, the colony often runs out of brood just before the time the new queen lays. There could be a week without brood. You will probably see...

    Re: adding boxes

It doesn't hurt a thing to have a deep one filled with honey. It's just going to be heavy if filled. You are getting comb drawn in it too, if it was just foundation.

    Re: Swarm Queen Not Laying

Yeah, I have read they normally fly more than 2 miles to mate, but I don't have any background to verify it. I am at the mercy of others who seem to know what they are talking about concerning that....
  23. Re: Am I the only one who doesn't have capped honey in July?

In early June the flow took off hard for 2 weeks. I expected to scramble for boxes and frames since I quickly used what I had. But it hadn't rained in a while at that point and rain didn't come for...

Re: now what do i do with laying worker hive?

I have never heard that it would work like that. You can't generally introduce grafted cups in a queen right hive and get them to build a queen. As written before, you introduce a frame of fertile...

    Re: Swarm Queen Not Laying

It sounds like swarming is a death sentence for a colony of bees there currently. Swarm prevention would be a very important thing to know about. If feral bees are capable of surviving there, your...
