    Re: Swarms in Mi

I to would say a couple weeks yet, I'm seeing lots of capped drone cells and queen cups just starting in many of my hives. Much slower start than last year.

    Re: Best quality wood Frame

I prefer Mann Lk frames. They seem to be much better quality than most others I've tried.
Their customer service also can't be beat.

Re: looking for queen rearing dvds

The DVD by Dr. Larry Conner is pretty good, his book Queen Rearing Essentials is better.
Most larger bee supply places have them.

Re: Honey and type 2 diabetes

Be careful and follow your Dr's advice. That being said here's my experience, if I eat pancakes with syrup for breakfast I'm shaking like a leaf by lunchtime. If I replace the syrup with honey I have...

Re: sign from above or a test?

As others have stated, honey bee stings are very mild compared to some of the others.
Some people can develop a near immunity to them and some do not.

Re: Full hives at this time? What do they do?

I had a hive cast a swarm yesterday, huge swarm nearly three basketballs in size.
They were one deep and two meds for hive bodies with five supers on top, one super was empty so they had room?...

Re: Does buckwheat nectar smell like goldenrod

How long did it take your buckwheat to bloom? I just read that some varieties bloom in as little as 4 weeks.
Seems like it would be a good late season crop to plant.
  9. Re: You may be wondering why I'm posting so much lately...

Ray, don't be afraid to seek him out. I found faith at one of the lowest points in my life nearly 25 years ago and it has helped me to get through many others since. I just prayed for him to ease...

Well I'll tell you right off, I am a strong supporter of private property rights. However, if you knowingly do somthing that causes physical or financial damage to others you should expect some...

    Re: Hives in full sun

With several yards in a variety of environments the hives that always seem to do the best for me are in full sun with screened BB.
  12. Re: 10 acres of Pumpkins in full bloom, Amish soaking them with Sevin!?!?!!!!!

Well since there are from 2-6 nearly full supers on most of these hives I quoted $30 to $35k for complete replacement and that doesn't account for my mating nucs or breeder queens:eek:
    I think that...
  13. Re: 10 acres of Pumpkins in full bloom, Amish soaking them with Sevin!?!?!!!!!

Ok, I've gotten the extension office involved and their working on a solution.
The problem here is compounded by the primitive nature of the Amish.
No way to communicate other than a visit in...

    Re: Over wintering nucs?

Why do you need a five frame super on top?
I'm using a five frame nuc with a shim on top with sugar bricks to feed.
Screened bottom boards to keep the moisture down.
I think if you go crazy with...

I spoke with the Amishmen again, he said he would give me time (a day or so) to find an alternative control for his bug problem.
I have posted a pic of the invader, does anyone know of a bee...
  16. Re: 10 acres of Pumpkins in full bloom, Amish soaking them with Sevin!?!?!!!!!

These are dirt floor poor Amish, very good people but no recourse for me if they kill my bees.
Just got off the phone with Bayer Crop Science, the first thing the representative said is make sure...
  17. 10 acres of Pumpkins in full bloom, Amish soaking them with Sevin!?!?!!!!!

When I came home today my Amish neighbors were spraying their pumpkin field (in full bloom) with Sevin.
Only 200 yards from my 50 colony home yard. I went straight over to talk to them and they had...

Do you install 1 queen cell or 2???

I've had good success (80-90%) installing one cell in my nucs, I'm curious to know if you see much better installing two cells? I have lots of extra cells right now and thought about trying it.
