In my opinion and climate, ten days is pushing it, mix and add within 2 or so days is best.
I am a hobbyist beekeeper. If I ever break even or go into the black with what I've put into bees, then I'll be a regular beekeeper. But to each their own :D
I think the number of hives question...
Thanks for the input ya'll. Right now I am not looking at a huge varroa problem. In the super, I did some damage to some of the capped drone brood due to the comb being a bit wild, so staying with...
I am down to one hive until I get packages in May, but the hive I am talking about is going into it's third season. Right now I have two deeps and a shallow super for the hive. Down in the two...
whether by newbees or veterans, I have learned from many experiments, accidents, and foul ups reported on here by users. And I'm thankful for the opportunity.
 on the traps. Plus, if you notice in the spring that the beetles are back, an "extra long inspection" helps too-- meaning I get every frame out one at a time and give it at least a full...
one of my two hives has had trouble keeping up with their neighbors, and finally succumbed when the wax moths tore their home up. Nasty, nasty things. Anyways, my question: What do I need to do...
oddly enough, come to think of it....mosquitoes land on her but don't bite. She's literally never been bitten. Or stung for that matter. Go figure
I dunno, could be a scent issue. My wife has never been in the hives, and the girls will land on her when she's outside like it's goin outta style. No issue. They don't dislike me by any means,...
ok, maybe not the best...but the most memorable for sure. I am a 2nd year beekeeper, but I think the issue with many of us new beeks is the issue of instant gratification. If there's a problem,...
The best advice I got in bee school-- "If you ask three beekeepers the same question, you'll get five different opinions; and if you keep bees long enough you'll eventually figure out which one was...
I've got the same situation upon inspection in my hives: drone and workers mixed in with honey in the supers. The two deeps below it are full of honey, but there is still an active brood nest. I'm...
During these hot times I'll do the waterers for plain water. Have seen robbing tendencies if I do syrup in them. That is....unless I put them way off from the hives (which isn't a bad idea--the...
Yep, seeing eggs means things were ok at 3 days prior, give or take. Often I don't want to agitate the bees by looking for the queen EVERY time I go in. The quicker I get out of the...
Good! I saw that new white comb on top of the brood frames today, and was scratching my head as to why there was minimal activity in the supers. Must be the girls are getting ready to rev things up...
I can't take credit for this find, someone else on here posted....I just can't find the link. Great resource though.

Good information. I used caulk on the outside of my joints just in case the TBIII decided to not be so waterproof, though this is the first account I've heard with an issue. No issue with it on the...
Good experiences here with Titebond III. I guess the real question is how much equipment you have to assemble, as price on a commercial or big time hobbyist scale could make a difference.
I noticed a lot of drones on the ground of my hives last year when the SHB problem was at its worst point. Stores were not low, but could have been better at the time. But the hive was certainly in...
I voted as a one year, not to count the 1.5 years I read about beekeeping and lurked on this sight without a screen name.
What finally did me in was going to the state fair and seeing the NC...
One of my favorite spots when I went to college up there.
I've been kicking this idea around for a while...I'm not terribly mechanically inclined, but it looks like an extractor for less than 50 bucks not including the power drill (though I guess you could...
Same thing happening in my neck of the woods. But upon inspection today things are looking good. I was afraid when I first saw the bearding so early...
They have helped with my beetle problem some, in conjunction with pans of oil below. My one gripe is that I end up spilling oil in my hives sometimes upon installing these traps, but that is how it...
