  1. Re: Possibly Coming Back to the Business, Need Advice

Many sideliners are sideliners because they do not have a business plan. I always plan five years out. Always with backup plans.

In beekeeping timing and careful planning are key.

    NeonBee,
Attend a few meetings and learn what has changed over the last 15 years.

Re: new 7% tax on almond pollinators

As Nick says the tax is an earnings tax. If you work and earn money (over a cetain amount) in Kansas City Missouri you owe a City earnings tax ( 1 or 2 percents I think now) .

    Sounds like the 7%...

Re: 1000 hives, how many acres?

Now in my opinion is not the best time to get into commercial beekeeping but I think serious sideline has a good chance of success.

    Trevor,
80 are not a problem with a 16 foot bed. In fact we haul 96 ( two pallets high) . The discussion was about going three pallets of doubles high ( the same height as many semi loads) .

I do not believe stacking pallets ( 4 ways with doubles) on a 12 foot bed with even a 550 is a good idea.

Ford 350-550 are common in the industry but the engine is not what the 7.4 engines were. The early 460 gas engines could turn out the horses.

We use a 450 super duty ( 6.0) and run 24,000 tags and...

    Re: bees shortage in almonds

    Nick,
Beekeepers in the Midwest never put 2 framers or even 4 frames on a load to almonds this time of year. Right away I knew I was talking to a dumb almond grower.
