  1. Re: Can bees truly survive with zero interventions?

So the drones could be from another hive just checking out the prospective debutantes?
  2. Re: Can bees truly survive with zero interventions?

I have a question concerning a supercedure which I think took place inside this hive.

  3. Re: looking for a list of plants to put in for my bees

I planted Walker's Low nepeta, Lobelia, Phacelia, and African Blue basil in this echium bed this year. The bees were on it for months.
I'm into planting for the bees, then shooting video of them...

    Re: birdsfoot trefoil for bees?

Yes, they seem to like the Bird's Foot Trefoil. I've lived here over 40 years and I know that I never planted it. I don't know where it came from, but it grows up through the grass and tall weeds. ...

    Re: birdsfoot trefoil for bees?

If you want to see what the Bird's Foot Trefoil plants are doing when the bees land on the flowers, check out this video that I shot a couple of years ago. At the time, all I was doing was trying to...
  6. Re: Bees love Echium wildpretii. (Tower of jewels)

Sheesh!!! They are eating everything now. About a week ago I noticed them pulling on some of my tomato vines. Do you need any more seeds? I got a bunch from odfrank.
  7. Re: Bee on Bee disagreement over 'Blossom rights.'

I've harvested a BUNCH of seeds from this St. John's Wort which I've been calling Hidcote Hypericum. But Hidcote might be incorrect because Hidcote is a hybrid according to a web site I recently...
  8. Re: Bees love Echium wildpretii. (Tower of jewels)

I'm sending you some seeds from my echium pininana tower to trade for some wild prettii seeds. I'm looking forward to getting some 'red' echium. 😀
  9. Re: Bees love Echium wildpretii. (Tower of jewels)

I'll do that...do you want any seeds from this one?
  10. Re: Bees love Echium wildpretii. (Tower of jewels)

[QUOTE=odfrank;1285876]If it is 13' tall I wonder if it is Echium pininana instead? You will be disapointed with it as a windbreak. They die after blooming.

Hey Odfrank...Can you look at this...

    Re: Bucket head Bee VAc

I gotta agree, C2. The dimmer switch worked well for me on my very first time of sucking up some bees, even though the bees take a sharp 90 degree turn into the bucket, no dead bees! Thanks for the...

Re: I'm building another log hive...a big one

My log hive mentor, Hal Strain, has come out with another log hive. Since he is pushing 80 and since he couldn't source an old log, he built one, out of full sized 1 x 12's. ...

Re: I'm building another log hive...a big one

I was starting to doubt myself, wondering whether I would get a swarm this year. The few swarms that I saw were small. We even had a small(ish) swarm land on the log hive only to move on elsewhere....

    Re: Bees pollinating Scotch Broom

    Bees pollinating Scotch Broom

I wanted to see what the bees were getting into when they were covered with yellow pollen. I walked up the road to the blooming Scotch Broom and realized why they were covered in pollen. The bees...

The photos are very sharp. Is it a lot of effort to photograph bees in the field? Can you take video with that system? Probably not because you need the flash to freeze the motion with the lens...

Re: How Far From Apiary for Swarm Trap

I hung a bait hive on the very tree that had a feral colony of bees in it. Ten days later I had bees in it. I didn't use a swarm lure, but I did use some old comb and a little lemongrass oil.
