    Single Deep + honey supers?

I've always run double deep bodies and medium supers. Lost 18 of 20 colonies this year. I'm starting with single deeps and packages.

I'd like to get some honey this year and am tempted to just...

Uncapped nectar...what to do with it?

I pulled my supers in July to get a first batch of honey. I extracted in one night and put the supers back on. The bugs cleaned them and started filling them up with nectar.

    The frames are full...
  9. Re: Pulling honey supers before dusk for evening extraction...doable?

drat. It sounded too easy. Now to plan B...whatever that is.
  10. Pulling honey supers before dusk for evening extraction...doable?

Has anybody pulled supers a couple hours before dusk and put them in front of the hives to let the bees make it back to the hive and then collected (hopefully) bee-less supers for nighttime...

Here outside of Chicago the dandelions popped up two days ago. None of the four hives are interested BUT every puddle, birdbath, and container holding water is crusted with bees. Never seen anything...

Haven't ever made a sugar block but would like to try...the question I have is where do you deploy them in the hive? Do I have to mold them thin and place between the boxes or do they go up on top of...

Re: Hornet Predation on Honey Bees

I watched an interesting behavior the other day (now that you mention it) -- I had dribbled sugar water on the hive as I was replacing the feeder. The honeybees loved it and it attracted hornets. The...

Re: Odd bee...havior re: my mother in law

Thought about that...but we haven't come up with anything in particular that she uses. We wondered if it might be the detergent she washes her clothes in but that sounded too left field.

My bees hate my yard. One of the hives hates me personally (stung in my eyelid while filling the feeder this morning). They won't even bother with my dandelions.
