I recently grafted 30 larvae in my first attempt at the procedure. When I took a look at them 4 days later I was surprised to find that all of the plastic cell cup that I had treated were empty! I'm...
shannonswyatt,
My question wasn't really about how to do the trap out, although I do like your thinking, but how long will it take for the top box with the queen in it to die out enough so that I...
I have a hive that is worse than the one in the video, the bees get so thick on my veil that I have to smoke my face to see what I'm doing. I'm not able to find the queen because I can't work the...
I got my suit from PM and love it to death! I'm working with Africanized bees and have one hive in particular that is mean and this suit lets me get my work done and I stay cool while doing it.
Personally, I would welcome the extra harvest of wax.
[QUOTE=Hector Pinto;884592]I live in Honduras too, I'm from Tegucigalpa, I was in Utila last week. Let me know if you need any equipment, I know some places where you can get all the equipment. I...
"instead of living all winter as winter bees are supposed to"
I thought that the bee life span was 6-7 weeks.

The story of the hunt and catch is interesting. But I would like to bring up one issue that may be of concern to you, being that the hive was out in the open like that it may be Africanized. As I...
Does the lighter colored wax that is found in honey comb work as well, (being accepted), as the darker brood comb?
OK, I haven't seen any responses that really sell the concept of using inner covers other than to prevent the telescoping lid from being propolized down thus making it difficult to remove. I live in...
OK, I'm getting to see the bigger picture now and can see how having several NUC's around for spare parts could be quite useful for rapid recovery from problems and losses. Thank all of you that...
Winter, what's that?
Good stuff people. I have been reading several threads on the subject and decided on buying one from Pigeon Mountain Trading Company. I can't wait to try it out. I live in the tropics and work with...
How many real men does it take to change a light bulb?
NONE, real men don't change light bulbs!

How many women's liber's does it take to...
I agree with BMAC. I live on an island where packages and NUC's are not an option. As a beginner, I looked forward to capturing a colony either by cut-out or feral capture. I have to say that I was...
OK, I'm a newbee and have been reading and studying like crazy to get set up for the spring, which is really always present where I am. :D I am seeing a lot of mention of people keeping several NUC's...
I am semi-retired and live on a small island in the Caribbean Sea. There is a Facebook page for buying and selling things that is largely used and monitored by expats and I saw a listing one day...
Paul, Thanks for your comments. I mostly was wanting to learn about their behavior, swarm/beard or what. I'm sure that all of the bees here are AHB and I really don't mind dealing with them. Just...
1. Split the one hive I have from a feral capture.
2. Try my hand at various methods of queen rearing to make splits with.
3. Split my one hive and the resulting splits to increase my yard to 20...
This is a bit 'after the fact' but I caught 1 swarm on 14 Jan 13.

Uhhh....Newbee here, what is 'BT"?
Paul, Thanks for the input. I also thought that it could be a small swarm. When I removed these from the bottom of the hive there was a bit of wax activity which wouldn't make sense if the bees came...
