We've had them up in michigan, although last winter (very cold) and the drought must have really hurt them as i've not seen any yet this year.
I'm stumped we're laying well across the board here in michigan
Is there a lack of incoming forage? Maybe try feeding pattys and syrup?
You sir are a smart man. Easiest way to do it. :)
I happen to have a littman cardiology III stethoscope (very sensitive) and on a quiet winter day one can hear everything going on inside. Just...
This year i hived packages in my garage (very cold outside and sleet) on drawn comb and frames of honey. They stayed in there for 4 days (screen board 1/2 open). Finally moved them outside and they...
i've made several that look like this

I have hardware cloth at the top instead of plywood and I put cedar shavings in...
LOL DPLONG! Sorry to get your hopes up. I dont think we'll ever hear anything from him again. I agree with millerwb:ws:
lol! you can use a red light to look in the darkness. Man are they defensive at night though!
I agree with the above. You could also potentially move them to a garage or barn until it warms up to protect them. This year we in MI had a similar problem with early packages. I actually hived...
I to received a bankruptcy notice. The filing states that "there does not appear to be any property available to the trustee to pay creditors." Well that was a surprise... lol. He didn't say that...
The use of all mediums was probably the smartest decision i made (purely by luck) :)
#1 mistake - underestimating the destructive force known as varroa destructor (well named)
had you requested a refund?
we've had them in michigan for couple years now. I have not seen any in my overwintered clusters. I suspect they come up from overwintered migratory coloniescoming from the south. I haven't notice...
I purchased some unassembled (essentially new) dadant hive equipment. The bottom boards and telescoping and inner covers were not very good quality. Pressed fiberboard was used on the inner covers...
yes I dont understand why syrup would be better than honey (from a known AFB free source). I'm hoping to feed honey only this spring and save a lot of $$ on sugar
Customer service has been fantastic for me. Prices may be a bit more, but their frames and supers are top notch. The one order that was not cut well was replace in its entirety.
I am getting many packages early but will have requeened every package with northern adapted or my survivor stock by july 15. I dont plan on taking any of the package queens into the winter. I may...
wow that sounds tough. I guess that would be to hot for me but I suppose its all about your personal tolerance to stinging
my best success with generating straight comb has been using the full length starter strips as others have described. ( i haven't tried the wedge bars yet as this works fine and I have a lot of free...
Have you tried mel's method for queen raising? Although they are e-cells, Its fairly fool-proof and essentially, you use your strong breeder colony as a starter finisher. You could even add brood...
awesome! those are the best cutouts where you dont have to worry much about tearing up the walls :)
I use 1.5 inch staples with glue. I've only had 1 or 2 fail in the last couple years. I'd worry brads could just pull through
I dont know the answer to this although if you had bees down there as part of his "honey farm" then I would try and retrieve them ASAP!!
