Re: EFB Can they be saved?

Last inspection the nucs looked better, I have been feeding heavy and I will treat with TM this week. Thank you Tim B, your explanation of how the bacteria works is very helpful. You speak of a...

Re: EFB Can they be saved?

Thanks for all the comments. These nucs came from frames with low mite counts. I have not tested them, they have only been in existence a month. I am pretty certain it is EFB and not mites but I...

Re: EFB Can they be saved?

Like I said I am interested in hearing from people who have experienced EFB European Foul Brood. Not to be confused with AFB American Foul Brood. Thanks!

    EFB Can they be saved?

I started two nucs in a new yard with bought queens at the beginning of August. They were joined by a queen from a failing hive that I put in a nuc to use in an observation hive. I say this because...

Like I said they are being fed. I am not feeding them scalding water........I am just pouring it on myself. I guess I was looking for European foul brood because Flower planter got me worried about...

I am. Well an assistant who wants to take over the hive. Its at her community garden. I am not very confident she is mixing syrup thick enough even though I have accused her of making it light and...

Another possibility is White Mist Flower. Bees love it.

    Re: Winter Prep to Early?

Thanks Enj, That's a good idea. I might do that tomorrow. If they start filling like crazy I know where to return the wet supers to. I think a good inspection will put my mind at ease.

    Winter Prep to Early?

My plan this year was to leave fall honey for the bees to avoid feeding. I moved two supers off two hives a week ago to my two hives without supers. Yesterday I picked up the three medium box hives...

Re: When to Call it Quits

I know nothing about EFB, I have to do some research, I am guessing HBH is hive beetle, I saw my first one in this hive a few days ago. I have my other hives on a platform above rocks and I never...

    When to Call it Quits

I have a split that I started mid June. It was headed by the original package queen of a hive that attempted to swarm. I started them with in one ten frame medium and boosted them with four frames...
  16. Re: Stupid question: how many beekeepers are scared of bees?

I usually freak out when they are in my hair but the other day I just stood really still and it found it's way out and flew way. I think if bees didn't have stingers I would not be as interested in...

Totally off topic but I can't resist. How are they at purifying pesticides in agricultural areas? Chlorine in swimming pools? Chemilawns? No dead animals in the country? MD

I have been wondering about the increased population of bees in NYC. The NY times has an article about London and how there are too many bee keepers for the available forage. As I start to mentor...

Aren't we missing the point here. Maybe honey from China can come in a plastic bag but local honey in my market goes for $10 for a half pound and you can not expect to get that price if the bottle...

Don't check her again until your bee math says it is past time to see eggs. Best not to disturb a virgin queen. You should have some options available for queens you can get in a reasonable time...

    Re: New"bee" with questions

That looks like a virgin queen to me. You need to do a little bee math....look at Micheael Bush's site and figure out when she should be mated by. it is a little less then a month from when you...

    Re: Newbie Sanity Check

Everything you said sounds text book except for this. Maybe it's personal preference but I would not use plastic for brood rearing. They may be more willing to draw out wax.
