    Re: Registering apiary in Ohio

A couple years ago the Lorain club didn't like the way the inspector treated their bees, so most people opted not to get inspected. I don't know the particulars at all, but that's a reason to not get...

Re: What is wrong with this honey?

Yes, anything left out usually induces a feeding frenzy..but not this stuff.
That contamination is something I didn't consider.
We thought about testing, but there are so few bees we didn't want...

She had already scraped the boxes.

Everything we had trashed was not being raided by swarms of bees.

(It did seem worse when we first inspected)

On the top bars and all down the sides of the box on the leeward sides. It was like a frat house on taco night.

Re: What is wrong with this honey?

Oh yes, it was poop. The insides of the boxes were painted with it. The tops of frames were not just lightly spattered. I'll see if she will take a pic of boxes we removed, they are at her house in...

Re: What is wrong with this honey?

There was poop EveryWhere! Corners of the deeps were just filthy with it. The top super that they ended up in after winter wasn't too bad, but we changed the box and got rid of any frames that were...

Re: What is wrong with this honey?

I'll check tomorrow when I go back to see if they are still alive.
When I unwrapped my hive tool to clean it today the smell was overpowering. I didn't know what all I was smelling when we found...

What is wrong with this honey?

    10187

When my friend showed me this pic, I didn't think she had a problem and maybe it was sugar that had crystallized. When we went to do a full inspection today, I found it was everywhere and so...
  9. Re: Getting ready for first honey, question on sieve/strainer

I put some clean screen on top of my 400 mesh, and when it's done dripping I have all the cappings in it to give back to the bees, and the mesh needs just a rinse.

I've only been doing this for 4 years and I never had one wait this long to start laying. What I read, and experienced, was she comes out and takes a week to get acclimated, get mated and start...

Re: Queen hatched 10 days ago and ...nothing

She finally started laying yesterdayon a newer frame of brood comb that I put in friday. The weather is now consistently hot. Whatever did the trick I am relieved, the hive I got her from is awesome.

Re: Queen hatched 10 days ago and ...nothing

    Ah, I'll give her that.

Is she pissed at me looking at her, or is she not finding something she needs?

That's why I added the pollen patty , in case she felt they wouldn't be looked after once...

Re: Queen hatched 10 days ago and ...nothing

On my last endeavors, they were up and at it in a week. But it was nice and hot. Then I started the 3 day checks.

I gave them a mega bee patty, in case they didn't like the old pollen, and...

Re: Comb to Candle : Quick, clean, easy ! :)

I put short pvc legs under bottom and stood them in oil filled tuna cans. Not high enough to be tipsy. Some bees died, but the ants wont cross over even when filled with bees and leaves. We're safe...

Re: Honey Conversions (oz, cup, volume etc.)

I had that problem in beginning. 12 oz bears fill to 16 oz. And 16 oz queenlines fill to 16 oz. So manufacturers don't help. I found honey density in a book, but it didn't give units, so I went to...
