    Re: No Luck With Splits

Scorpion, one problem you may be having is with feeding. I have had a lot of success in raising bees by splitting them using the methods of Mel Disselkoen, and then growing them on using Michael...

    Re: solar wax melter recommendations

    A hot car can work.

Do you have a wheelbarrow? I have used a black wheel barrow, and bungee corded a piece of clear plastic to the top of it with good results.

Re: A mystery in our OTS hives.

I have seen the same thing. I notch cells for insurance , but find some perfectly good cells are made that I didn't notch. I now cut out all cells in each nuc except for 1 or 2 in order to avoid...

Re: can we crowd sourced swarm map ?

That is a great idea Harley, a visual progression of the march of the swarm season. Good thinking.

    Re: Hello from WI

Hi Angie, no I got my first package mailed to me as I didn't know any better, and then I got 4 over the next couple of years from Jim Kloek (natures nectar) in Stillwater MN. Since then I have been...

Hey Mick, I have a son at UMD so I have been up there a few times lately. How deep is your soil before you hit that dark grey rock?

    Re: NYS Apiary Inspector 1

Mark, I have no idea what WI pays, it just doesn't seem to be a living wage. I suppose for a college kid it might work - I just spotted the seasonal aspect. Sorry if I came off rude.

    Re: Queen Bank for 12

HI Earl, what did the queens arrive in? The JZBZ's trays or something else? Thanks for starting the thread, I have learned from this.
  15. Re: Splits getting too full of Nectar

I suggest you do nothing and see what happens. I make splits with cells the same way in 5 frame boxes and the brood break is excellent mite control. Check a nuc periodically. What you will see is...

    Re: why nucs so late?

I think mid-may is about right. The supplier is likely making sure that the nuc is boiling and ready to be transferred into bigger equipment. It is better to get them later as a sure thing than...
  17. Re: Ever see an entire frame of drone brood next to a frame of worker brood?

I take a sharp thin bladed knife and cut them out as they are sealed then feed the drones and the sequestered mites to the chickens. I don't want
  18. Re: honey or syrup when splitting a hive?

No, the honey and pollen will be fine. Check them weekly until the dandelions or fruit come in.

Re: My wax dipping tank setup

'tis a thing of beauty. Have you considered becoming a professional dipper in the winter? If you could work out a profitable rate it might help you fund your journey to 1000 hives.

Rookie, please link the video. It sounds interesting.
  25. Re: Queen mating flights - alone or with workers?
