I thought of doing that. As it stands I'll be out of the area today. Hopefully they'll hang out until I get back this evening.
My only surviving hive swarmed today. A large swarm it was and landed 30 feet away from the old hive in an apple tree. I happened to be there when this all took place. As soon as things calmed down I...
There's a young man in our area who claims to be having fantastic success with essential oils being sprayed using an alcohol mist. He puts 3 drops of fennel oil and 3 drops of clove oil in a pint of...
Thanks for the comeback pgg. I think I will increase the sugar content. The weather pattern is supposed to hold for another week or two. They were hauling in gobs of pollen today but I don't want...
Last Summer I hived a swarm and it seems to be doing alright so far. The nights have been cold (teens and 20's) but the days in the 50 degree F range.
The bees have been very busy during the day...
Hi folks. It's been a while since I've posted but couldn't resist chiming in on this thread.
Last year I spent the better part of summer and fall in wilderness areas of SW Oregon. In years past...
Tiller Oregon - Dandilions, pears, madrone, manzanita, and more!
That's amazing. I have seen such creatures on a regular basis here at Singing Falls (Oregon). In fact I have seen several around and in the hives. Interesting.
I'm about an hour South of Winston. Small World.
Chef, I understand your state of affairs somewhat. An acquaintance of mine works as chef at the Cow Creek Tribal Casino and Convention Center. One...

Here's what we have found works as a fantastic solution to heating. These furnaces also burn straw and corn cobs for heating.Scroll down to the middle of the page.

We raise Australian Shepherds and have for 25 years. Priceless for our lifestyle. Second, runner up is the Hungarian Kuvasz Livestock Guardian Dog.

I use the scope all the time for listening when major things are going on with the hive. It's amazing how the "conversation" changes under different conditions and activities in the hive.
Can't...
Been there. There is very little wood available in many areas of nepal.
On another note. You might say this type of construction is "primitive" but I have neighbors who have built entire housing...

Mite count is in the thirties that last few days. Far less than at the peak but still not what I'm looking for. Crazy bees are still finding pollen after 3 nights of hard killing frost ...
Indeed Axtmann! It is very encouraging to see a plague subside AND actually have a reasonable solution to the problem - thanks to you and the folks here on the board. It means a lot to me and pray...
The beauty is in the success! Fortunately my bees are not clustered yet and lots of young healthy bees are flying in front of the hive when the day warms up. Good time to treat! We had a very hard...
30 mites. I noticed no deformed bees today.
It was sad to see the deformed winged bees fanning the entrance after treatment yesterday. Usually I see them either crawling away or being carried away....
mite count is way down again and there are few newly hatched deformed bees at this point. I may have reached the downhill side of this plague. Next treatment is today. I'll keep you posted.
...
That's exactly the design I had in mind. I hope to wip one up in a couple of days for the next treatment. Did you use plexiglass?

Thanks!
Mite count yesterday morning was way up again (several hundreds at least).
The one thing I did differently in the last treatment may have influenced the effectiveness of the vapors. I...
