The only secret to knowing anything, us your money comes right out of your account. And I mean right out. It took persistent calling and writing. I even got to the point of demanding my money back....
I say, find the nest, kill it and put up the trap. If there are that many buzzing around there is sure to be more then one nest. But get the big ones first.
That is a great picture. It's actually pretty cool. Thanks

I ordered 3 queens from Russll's Apiaries 2 months ago. Still no queens and not responce to my e-mails or phone calls. Personally, I feel this is a bad show customer service. They were quick to take...

Hope your bees winter well and make lots of honey to share.
All three of my garden hives are painted a dark green. Used primer first of course. In building my own hive bodies and supers I use elmers wood glue and nails.
One thing you can do as well which I have do with one of my hives is use deep hive bodies for the brood boxes and the mediums as honey supers.
I've got 3 of BM garden hives in my backyard. Haven't had such a problem. Summers are hot 100+ degree days. And cold winters that are in the negatives with lots of blowing winds.
With that being...
Last year my first bee hive got in to rabbit brush real heavy. The honey had a great taste. But the after taste was not so good. No one at home wanted to eat it. Used it as the sweetener for baking...
One trick I have used has been to lightly brush melted wax over the foundation thats not being used. The workers got busy cleaning it up and built new comb on it.
I've had my winter thinning. Seemed like the bees brought all the dead out at one time. If they do what they did last winter, I'll have another small pile outside then hive about the end of january....
I picked up some small wine tasting bottles from a local winery. Gave them out as gifts. They looked nice, but will stick with regular jars for now on.
