    Re: Robber Screen Plans

I use a 1" by 1" for the bottom front and 2" by 1" for the top and sides (actually 3/4" by 3/4" and 3/4" by 1-1/2")
Attach all the 2" by 1"s making sure the sides are parallel, staple the screen on...

Re: Can't find my green marked queen

Maybe your original queen was superseded or she died. Can you find any eggs or larvae in the comb? I would just observe for the time being and look for eggs and larvae.

    Like Brad said above...
If you're not sure what to do, don't do anything. It's a hard lesson for me too.

Re: Smokers is there a difference or what

If you can get the Vivo for $20, go with it. Looks a lot like Mann Lake wood bellows smoker. Or Mann Lake has the Dome topped smoker on sale right now with the coveted "Pro Bellow" with replaceable...
  13. Re: This is what bees look like at night in preparation to swarm?

If they stay out all night make sure they have enough room. That will make them swarm.

Re: What is going on with this nuc

You probably fed them to swarm state, too slow at providing more frames of comb for them to expand to.
  15. Re: splitting hive - how far apart should hives be?

    Per Mr. Bush' website
"The question often seems to come up, how far away to put the split. You need to account for drift if it is less than 2 miles. In 36 years of beekeeping Ive never taken a...

Re: Top and Bottom Material for a Swarm Trap

I use 3/8" plywood. Watch your bee space above and below the frames. I put a 3/8" space5 on the bottom and sometimes the top also. You want greater than 1/4" and less than 1/2" above and below the...

  21. Re: Bees with Butt's in air at entrance **VIDEO** What are they doing?

That one is exposing her nasonov gland without raising her butt much. Her friend is not, you got me... I thought they were just fanning also.

    Re: Robbers on new Nucs

You need to put a real robbing screen on, that puny one ain't cuttin it. Some Vick's Vapo Rub might also help. If that were mine I'd close up the hive for 1-2 days with some screen and give them some...
  23. Re: Best way to re-wax molded plastic foundation

Wide paintbrush or small roller, slather on the melted wax. I've tried dipping Mann Lake Rite Cell and it seems to repel wax. Might be mold release or something.

    Re: Robbers on new Nucs

enjambres hit the nail on the head, make sure it's not just orienting bees since you already have a robbing screen. Are there dead bees around the entrance and bees wrestling on the entrance and on...
  25. Re: Pretty sure my hive swarmed. Lots of questions! Capped Queen cells

You probably fed them into swarming. Isn't there any forage now down there? I would agree on the split with extra room when they get crowded.
