What is the best way to store supers? I have always had my bees clean them up after extracting and then stored them in my basement (dry and semi-heated in winter). I do not have wax moths as of...
The timing I havent figured out yet, is if I take my supers off before goldenrod and knotweed I get swarming in September, which never survive. I have no problem getting them to back fill in the...
Great ideas - thanks!
What do you folks use to serve up a sample of honey on at a farmers market? What type of crackers are best? Or something else?
I am curious as well. Our Bee inspector recommended them this spring, so I am trying them this fall....hope he was right...
Thanks... I am just across the river in weathersfield. The confusing part is the hives that are swarming are the ones that have the most room. I am baffled.
Interesting... My hives are swarming like crazy! I can't figure it out. I have had 5 swarms in the last 2 weeks. They have plenty of room. Ideas would be wonderful. Other beeks in the area are...
You could use wax drone foundation.
WHEW! ... You have no idea how much of a relief this thread is. The only thing I seem to be collecting this year is swarms :(. That is what I get for not have drawn comb on hand, with no or...
Is there a liability difference between the different options, especially when you are talking pollination for orchards?
I have insurance tacked on to my homeowners policy, it just seems to me to...
I am wondering -
Those of you who are operating smaller operations 15-30 hives. How do you handle the business side?

With nucs in short supply in the area - I opted for packages! What fun!
5 - 4lb packages after 3 weeks.
Hive 1 - no capped brood - supercedure cell and 2 queens :(
Hive 2 - strong
I am trying these this year with my package queens. Anybody have a rule of thumb for when you go in and let the queen out?
It was an adventure getting them it.
Happened to me last year :( I feel your pain. Happened to another local beekeeper this year.
I used a Carni Queen from BB. It absconded with my package right off. I am not sure this is necessarily tied to the queen though, as I was trying to start them on 4.9mm foundation. I put a Italian...
I live about 4 miles from orchard and it lays directly between 2 of my apiaries. The owner is friendly and easy to work with, and is one of the main apple suppliers for my father-in-laws...
Mike, you forgot to include the -$40 for the 2 new queens that I will need to buy from you:)
Thanks for the reality check, I guess.
Thanks! That is very helpful. I was thinking along those same lines.
Out of curiosity, how much do people charge for pollinating apples? I have been approached by a small local orchard for 2 hives for pollination. I am in Southern Vermont.
Thanks for your...
Any reason to register early? Is there a limit to the number of registrations accepted?
Whew ! This makes me feel much better. I opened my hives up, all 6 are doing great! (considering 1 was a late august swarm). I thought one wasn't going to make it because I saw the poop on top of...
