I agree with the OP's statement - there is no such thing as Aficanized bees. Heck, I've never even heard of Aficanized bees! :D
We're on track for this to be the wettest month in OK history - EVER! The 4-6" forecasted over the holiday weekend should do it.
Forecast is for dry/warm weather starting late next week, though.
I once transported a load of about 40 nucs in the bed of my truck for about 5-6 hours through central/northern Tehas in mid spring (probably the same temps you are talking about). I travelled at...
I don't think they left in Feb/Mar - that's just when I checked on the hive and noticed they were gone. I don't bother the bees during winter, so I'm not sure when they packed up.
I had a package hive that I installed in our back yard last spring. It built up well and looked healthy going into winter. I didn't extract any honey - left all of their stores for them to...
Thanks for sharing!
That looks to be it!
Thanks very much!
I was thinking it might be a type of mint - based mostly on the leaves (look similar to other mints). The are growing all around our duck marsh - LOTS of moisture. They are extremely...
Can anyone please help my identify this flower/plant that our bees have been working lately?
Thanks in advance!
I'm a Class 3 firearms wholesaler and we do A LOT of shooting at our ranch, where the majority of our hives are. We frequently shoot belt-fed machineguns within 100 yards of the bee yard and it does...
"Hi, my name is Nathan, it's been 18 days since my last sting..."
lol - genius!!!
The thing about getting a SOLID sting on the nose, is that it's like getting punched in the nose - your eyes water up real bad, "snot" starts running out of your nose - heck, you even drool a little....
So a graduate student at Cornell did a study to determine what the most painful places on the body to get stung are.
From personal experience, I know that the nose is the worst (been stung there...
I do see our bees working the native honey locust trees on our ranch in S.E. Oklahoma for short periods in the Spring.
Personally, I'm not a fan of honey locust at all. The are VERY prolific...
My main business is Class 3 firearms wholesaler, so I've got the kit to make that shot (w/IR laser, but I'd prefer to do it w/thermals)!
That was a great video - thanks for sharing! :)
I've been stung on the nose twice and both times it was the worst sting experience by far (one of 'em in particular was just like getting punched in the nose).
That works! I got lit up last year when I hopped into our Polaris Ranger and didn't notice a wasp nest on the roof right behind my shoulder. 2 or 3 wasps got me right above my shoulder blade (bee...
My thoughts as well. I'm a total noob, but one experience I had last year:
We had a package of bees that did not do well in shipment at all (probably 60-70% of the bees were dead when they...
I'm new to beekeeping and have all of our hives located on our 600+ acre ranch in S.E. OK.
Since our ranch is a "hunting" ranch, we're very tuned in to the mast producing trees (oaks, persimmon,...
This is a great thread!
I've been popped a few times, but never swelled like the picture. If it ever swell like that, I'll probably be a lot calmer after reading about all of the beeks that...
Actually, that's a pretty good trick to take your mind off of the bee sting! :)
We got our first two hives and package bees last year and set them up on our 600 acre ranch in S.E. Oklahoma.
Added three more hives/colonies this year and captured a swarm last week.
