    Re: I am at a crossroad.....I think?

Spice said what I was thinking. There is a lot to learn before becoming a sideline beekeeper.

Bees are easy to get here in Texas. Typically, those swarm and take-out bees are nervous, drip off...

Re: First and Last year since no one can play nice

We have new neighbors this year. They got stung before they could move in. Then the dog got stung. The bees had been confined for an entire month, due to rain.

I sold half my bees. Moved the...

    Re: Frames After Extracting

I put the supers back on the hive for two days or so, then store it if no honey flow is expected. You will be surprised how much better the comb looks after the cleanup and repair.

    Re: I can't win.

I was having trouble getting queens accepted once when the bees allowed the new queen to lay two eggs in queen cells, then killed her. They accepted the new queen. Bees recognize strangers.

Re: What power supply to get for OAV?

I've used a Harbor Freight jump starter for a couple years now. No regrets!

Fully charged, it will vaporize two grams of OA in less than 2 minutes, easy. By the time I get to the fourth hive,...

Re: Mating nucs with robber screens

Robbing screens on mating NUCs are mandatory here. No question about it. I loose virgin queens to dragon flies and winds though. :-)

Folks here were paying $20 for a deep frame of brood and bees this past Spring. HTH

    Re: Laying Workers

I was under the impression that a queen's abdomen could squeeze through an excluder...Its the thorax that wont go through. A worker's thorax will go through an excluder.....So, I don't think an...

Thanks, as always! First time I've seen you working queens with gloves, whats up?
  12. Re: Long Lang on legs? Our TBH's are great and need to expand operations

You can find plans for a horizontal bee hive here.

I modified those plans somewhat and made two of these:

  17. Re: How do you seal the entrance when relocation a swarm box?

    Re: ARGENTINE ANTS!!!!

jrbees, the bees have taken the poison at a rate that did not allow the typical mold build up. I suppose the lack of sunlight helps too. Let us know how the glass jars work.
