Re: Making mason jar feeder holders

I use a 2 3/4 in hole saw. Run a jig saw along edge of 2 3/4 hole. Keep fitting the Mason jar till you get it where you like it. Not too snug or too loose.
I put #8 hardware cloth on other side....

Had the most rain on record in one month when flow started. Only had four quarts and one pint second year. Have more drawn comb too. So I'm happy that things...

Re: Transferring to new boxes, too late?

It can be done now but if the boxes aren't drafty I would wait till spring. I'm more worried about harming the queen. Also boxes are propolized. Just feed if needed. Sort of agree with Ace on this....

Re: thoughts on freeman bottom boards?

Read the freeman site about hive beetles and oil traps. He explains how mainly you don't want ledges for the beetles to fall on. I think it's freemanbeetletrap.com. Very good info on hive beetles....

Re: Notches and holes... Does it really matter?

I thought notch side down is for winter to help prevent condensation? This side is deeper too and there is a bit more room too. If it's used during summer they will draw wax and propolize between...

    Re: Beekeeping conversions/rules of thumb

How many pounds does a shallow, medium or deep frame weigh full of capped honey? How many pounds of honey in a quart jar?
  16. Re: Inspection method when looking for swarm cells?

I tilted mine too but watch out if you have the little oil traps for hive beetles between frames in the box being tilted. I found out the hard way on one box. The oil will kill whatever bees it leaks...

    Re: Extraction Methods: Simple Draining

Didn't work for me last year. Had five medium frames inverted for three days in a 85 degree F garage. Maybe a third of the honey gravitated out. Ended up making a homemade extractor to get it all out.
