  2. Re: In The News This a.m. Elton Manitoba Bee Poisoning

That's the same story thanks for posting it.
"Loewen notes that a sticky residue was found on top of the affected hives, which has now been sent for analysis, along with samples of dead bees and...
  3. Re: In The News This a.m. Elton Manitoba Bee Poisoning

    Hello Haraga:
It's not only CTV, I went to 3 other sites and none of them had much more info. Have you pulled all your honey supers yet?

  4. In The News This a.m. Elton Manitoba Bee Poisoning

Good Morning: Can anybody from around Elton Manitoba elaborate on this? The details are sketchy in the article.

Re: Need advise? bees have to go!

I thought I read a thread on here where a guy just cut out a chunk of wall with the hive in it and moved the hive that way. If the owner is going to tear down the church anyway could it be an option?...
  6. Re: This is as close to Robbing as I want to get.

It wasn't a swarm because I opened it up in the evening and it was empty. I also found wax shavings on the bottom, they had chewed up some of the comb even though it was dry.

    Re: Label Design and Printing

Believe it or not I used Vistaprint, and they did a good job. Easy to use design studio on their site and my labels came 2 days earlier than predicted. I didn't shop around to compare prices but they...
  9. Re: This is as close to Robbing as I want to get.

I think they found the knot hole in the one box of drawn comb and it took off from there. Those are my extra honey supers about a 100 yards from my hives. They aren't even wet, my bees had already...
  10. This is as close to Robbing as I want to get.

If this is what robbing is like I don't want to get any closer and it's not even wet comb.

  11. Re: Mite Count: What is considered "high" for those who do not want to treat?

I just figure it's better to first learn to keep bees before trying to save the bee industry. Leave that part to the people who have the experience.

Re: 2 videos I recently made

Looks good, I use Serif's MoviePlus X6. I like the driving footage you took, I only have a digital camera with video capability and it doesn't do well when driving.

  16. Re: can i combine two weak hive and make a two queen hive?

I just looked, you guys are way south, and you have 6 frames with bees, squarepeg is right over winter them as they are. As far north as I am it would be a death sentence but yours should be ok....
  17. Re: can i combine two weak hive and make a two queen hive?

The way I look at situations like this is you really don't know the genetics or breed of both those swarms, if you have a flow going on I would just stack them up and walk away. I had a cutout and...

    Re: Combining 2 hives

You think the 2 weak hives won't make it on their own. Why not just combine those 2 you have nothing to lose.

Re: Jack Frost has Arrived :(

Wow, you got what I call a killing frost. We've had frost for 3 nights in a row but it's only been 1 or 2 degrees of frost and now the weather looks like it will be settled again for a couple weeks....

  21. Re: Hive body count reduction for wintering ... question!

I agree with Vance, even though you have them covered there must be enough draft to cause them to move away from the bottom box.

I'm such a clutz I get stung quite often, and I've found I hardly notice stings much anymore. There is the initial burning for about a minute and then I forget about it. Not much swelling, but I do...
