    Re: Entrance reducing for robbing?

That's interesting, Michael. Maybe I'll screen off the rest of the bottom. and drill a 3/8" hole towards the top..

That's interesting, AB. I will search that study online and read it, providing I find it. Thank you.

    Entrance reducing for robbing?

I have 4 hives. All 4 of them have a robbing issue.

Will reducing entrances to less than 1" be sufficient to stop robbing on strong hives? This sucks because there aren't that money warm days...

Re: Sawdust to absorb moisture in winter?

    Splatt,

    The naysayers will indeed nay-say.

Try it, and see if it works for your bees. As I and some others suggested already, just make sure you vent above the saw dust or which ever material...

In most cases, I usually ignore the wheel comment. There's nothing wrong with experimenting and trying new things for yourself. Don't let anyone convince you of anything other than that.

Re: Sawdust to absorb moisture in winter?

I tried using cedar shavings last year. It seems because I didn't have it vented enough above the shavings, that I had a big moisture issue and mold. Ounce I propped the top cover open, the moisture...

Re: Brown leftovers from solar wax melt.

    Thanks Ed.
I did the same with filtering through the paper towels. Fire starters sound like a good idea.
    Thanks again.

Brown leftovers from solar wax melt.

What is the dark brown left overs from filtering with a solar wax melter?
Is that propolis? Is there any use for it? or is it just garbage?

Re: Has anyone ever tried this syrup method?

Yes, it would be organic. So long as you weren't adding chemicals to it.
No, it would not be wrong.

I'm going to try to search out the ingredients this weekend and mix some up for one of my swarms. :)

Has anyone ever tried this syrup method?

I'd like to give it a try and I'm wondering if anyone has tried it before?

    Re: Scouting and Swarming
