I only have 5 hives, but I put my still camera in video mode and record my inspections for transcribing later. It is nice to record what you see while inspecting.

Thanks for the replies.
I do not wish to split and gain more hives.
A friend is buying queens (not sure where ga ?) and I am piggybacking on his order.
Out of necessity how do you transport hives with several supers on top ?
I do not have hive staples or time to get hive staples ? Do you just strap them together ? Seems like they would shift during...
Perhaps you might start feeding them 1:1 syrup to help them build up enough to want to swarm ? But that would not guarantee that you would be the one who would catch them.
I am planning on requeening 5 aggressive hives in a couple of weeks. I intend them to be queenless for 24 hours then use push in cages for introduction. I will look for queen cells while I am looking...
I have made 2 of 5 push in cages needed for 5 queens that will arrive soon.
My question is will the flimsy pieces (wires) of unwoven mesh be stiff enough to embed 3/8 into the drawn comb ?
...
I want to make a few triangle escape boards to clear supers. Can queens fit through them (above coming down normal direction) ? What size are the channels (bee space ? ) ? If you do not use...
I have some seeds. When do you plant them ? Do you start them inside ? Do seedlings transplant well ? Thinking of germinating them in wet napkins under a light like other seeds.
Thanks
Mike
Sorry about the size of the images. But I made 4 of these for my hives. They do not drip like inverted jars can. They are cheap to make and have not drowned a bee yet. They hold about 2 quarts each. ...
I do not know about a bucket, but I am trying this this year. They cost me nothing. They are cardboard boxes that I partially wrapped in plastic and put lemongrass oil inside and chunks of old wax. I...
I understand for swarm traps lemongrass oil is used, but is it not used to capture a swarm. I thought it would make the deep smell like a good home ?
Is lemongrass oil not used to hive a swarm ?...
That's funny. I had not even thought about keeping a couple of frames at work.
That should also boost Honey sales there as well. I easily sold 90 pounds of honey at work without asking a single...
I forward my home e-mails to work and get requests to come get swarms. Instead of driving home to get my stuff and driving back I am putting my 'stuff' in my van to be ready during swarm season. I...
Here's a pic of what I do.

After the bees are done it is not even sticky anymore. I was impressed.
Thanks for the replies.
It is not always easy to find the queen and I did not want to risk accidentally moving the queen on a frame of brood,
Mike
I have 5 hives close together. Mine do not mind my tractor with bush-hog or lawn mower near them, but they hate my 2 stroke weed eater.
I have 5 hives. I have a overwintered 5 frame nuc that is doing ok and a booming 10 frame hive near it. Swapping the 2 locations may help keep the booming hive from swarming (?) when the drones...
I buy hook-less foundation. I push the foundation up in the top groove then I melt wax to 'Glue' the foundation to the top bar. I do the same on the bottom bar. The problem is if you are new you may...
I just finished placing my order with confirmed free shipping from Brushy Mountain. Last year I bought a 4 frame extractor with free shipping and this year I really ordered a lot of stuff, including...
I also hope that they offer free shipping again. I have a very large order ready to give them. If I recall correctly their free shipping was only east of the Mississippi.

If you confine her would the workers see that as a non-laying, non-productive queen and try to supersede her ? Or would the eggs be too old by the time they realized that she was not laying ?...
I just extracted 25 frames today and there was more than a little pollen in the centers of some frames. It is still in the frames after extraction.
Question : I will let them clean the frames in the...
I am getting ready to extract, but will need to put a few empties back on hives.
Question is : Right after extraction can I spray still wet (with honey)frames with BT, then stick them back on hives...
I also made one, but have not used it yet. When I researched and asked the same question I was told that a 1/2 inch copper pipe cap full was about the correct amount.
