    Re: Total loss

Thanks all. I dont think it was bear damage. More than likely it was strong winds that blew over the hives I guess. Either that or another larger animal of some sort. I dont think deer eat honey or...

    Total loss

Not a good day today. I checked my hives to find everything knocked over. 4 hives all dead, all strewn around. Not a live bee to be found. I feel bad for the girls.

Now what to do with the hives.

I have 3 mature and 3 maturing peach trees on my land. Since I been watching, every year the bees work the blossoms. 2 years ago I think it was, they worked the daylights out of the mature trees....

Re: Opening the hive in 25 degree weather???

Thanks Mark. To answer your question: My hives were OK going into winter. Were they HEAVY? No. In my opinion, they were ok for a "normal"/mild winter. Obviously this winter is anything but mild. So.....

Opening the hive in 25 degree weather???

  16. Re: Topping off hives with sugar, different results.

I got it now. Supers were effectively used for winter store, and the winter stores were not only removed, but removed late. This caused the need for feeding late, which has issue with moisture laden...

    Re: Winter Kill Already
