    Re: Swarm on ground

    Now that there is funny!!!

Def my fault...Tacoma. I had problems drying them out this year, as they kept leaking(never happened before), but thought I had it all dried out. Will not happen again.

Re: Have never seen this before....thoughts?

I used the mix method that does not include heating it up Mike. Here is a link to what I did....have done this in the past with great results, but from what I have seen, I sure blew it this time.

Re: Have never seen this before....thoughts?

So......I killed the hive, not mice, but my mistake. Looks like the cluster heated up the fondant, as they rose that I had put in there in November, and there must have been too much moisture still...

Re: Have never seen this before....thoughts?

We had a week plus of highs at 10 degrees, so certainly could have been that.

Re: Have never seen this before....thoughts?

While I was standing there, I did see a bee land and go in. I run some foundationless.

OK....might be a week or more until we see 40 again, snowing now.

Darn it, thought they were too high for...

So, I went out to my three hives today checking to see for activity in the 43 degree warm spell we are having. I noticed that one hive had what looked like water standing on the landing board away...

    Re: Big Bad Bear Fencing

I had bears tear up my hives, then installed an electric fence. They tried again, and even knocked the fence down, but did not get through. 9000 volts and bacon hung on it has kept them away. I...

Re: Day 18 from Package Install-2nd inspection-Queen Cup or Supersedure Cell?

Astro...after a better look, I think you are right....seeing more than one egg in a cell is usually a tip off. Sorry nhbuckeye for my earlier quick response. Better eyes than mine replied.

Re: Day 18 from Package Install-2nd inspection-Queen Cup or Supersedure Cell?

I would not worry if you don't see the queen. I have a problem seeing her most times too. As long as you are seeing eggs.

Re: What did I hear today....

Not sure about yours....but for mine, I def saw the queen cups and hive ready to swarm. It depends on a number of factors the nurse bees determine. Very cool.

Yup, you probably guessed it. Piping....was out managing a hive today, and I pulled a frame and I heard piping. Looked at the bottom of the frame, and there was a queen cell with a new queen piping...

Re: Bee candy/fondant in frames ?

good luck....if you make your own candy for the frame, I use an ounce of water per pound of sugar and let it sit out for a day or two and it becomes rock hard. I also add a touch of vinegar to that....
