    CCD if Florida

I've had five hives dissappear without any sign of problems. They have been here today and gone tommorrow. All were building up nicely and had plenty of stores, honey, and brood when they...

    Re: Queens or drones

I make queens from my best hive. They will make drones whether you want them or not.

Re: full combs under hive boxes

That too was my next question. With that much comb outside I would bet on a swarm taking up residence underneath. Is the hive full? Or do they need more room? I too am more curious about what is...

Re: full combs under hive boxes

If they have egg/larvae/capped brood you well could have a second queen in which case I would tie them into frames and put them in a nuc or hive body, depending on how many. I have never come across...

Re: What o You Use to Uncap

I watched the video. Interesting but I can uncap faster and as well with my serrated uncapping knife. I will stick to it until/if I ever get large enough to need a machine. :D

Re: Amt. of time to draw comb?

Carnolians will, on average, draw comb much faster than Italians. They will boom when there is a flow on. I use mine to draw comb to give to weaker hives. They will also put up more honey than...

    Re: Failed experiment

My bees draw all thier comb above a queen excluder. There may be something to the theory that bees raised with an excluder readily pass through them where bees that werent hesitate to go through them.

    Re: Why powdered sugar?

Solomon you answered my question, thanks. So there are three camps in beekeeping. Maybe four. Treatment free, chemical free, and those who bombard thier bees with all chemicals available. Is IPM a...

    Re: New Queen Breeder Question

I had read that you will lose 30% during every step so I think you did pretty good. My first try was 100%, failure that is.
  12. Re: Grafting vs. graftless? Am I doing this right? Lots of questions.

Dont know about your schedule but have you been successful yet. I tried the Nicot system and my queen wouldnt lay in the plastic cups, even after thirty six hours. I am going to try again this week...

Re: Anybody using ship lap joint on their boxes?

If ship lap is what it is called then all my boxes are ship lap. I cut a rabbet on both pieces. It more or less squares itself and once you nail it both ways it cant come apart without tearing...

    Why powdered sugar?

Why is powdered sugar considered treating? Just curious. :D I am new to treatment free but have been practicing it for more than a year with mixed results.

They wont cause robbing that far away from the hives. I have a friend that put the comb from cut outs in his bee yard with no problems at all.

Re: Feeding: In My Sugar Water bad???
