    Re: Checkerboarding and pollen frames

The left over pollen makes me want to possibly not do the pollen boxing. What do you think, Walt? By the way I'm a true believer in CB it's has worked great for me.

Re: Bet you've NEVER seen this/and what to do?

Possibly a 2 queen colony mother-daughter and they were escorting her out?
  4. Re: Have my first Queen Cells - Now what? ***Pictures***

These cells being on drone frames is a bit puzzling?
  5. Re: Have my first Queen Cells - Now what? ***Pictures***

Swarm cells start with a queen cup where the queen lays the egg that is intended to become a queen.
Emergency cells are modified worker cells.
Question? Which is a supersede cell-emergency or...

Re: 10 frame double deep or single?

If Walts methods are used you should have med pollen box-deep-med of capped honey configuration shouldn't you? Yes, I have wintered this way for the past three winters with no problems.

I've been overwintering 5 frame nucs for a few years with great success. 5 frame nucs started Aug 1st seem to always get everything in order ie brood and stores. This year they seem to be more...

    Re: Is comb building over?

Try quart jars with only 3 holes in the lid, works great for me.

    Re: Too much honey?

You said honey, no sugar feeding, sounds perfect to me. I would put a frame of honey in middle of brood.

Re: Round 2 of my grafting attempt??

Did you check each frame to make sure they didn't have a cell started when you removed the queen?
  13. Re: Brood, honey cells not attached to foundation

Nice pics, did you feed in the fall? the open stores look very clear.

Re: Pollen information for your area

I find it useful , been using it about 4 years. Mine shows the predominate pollen types they are counting, if it is bee friendly good, if not I disregard it,
  19. Re: What is the closest you have bees to your house?

At the most 17 colonies 35 feet from back door. Also had a swarm land 10 feet from back door on a rose arbor.

Re: What did you learn this winter?

Backfill brood nest, colonies that started winter in bottom box doing much better. Most colonies didn't even make it to the top honey.
Sugar only for starvation !!! So far no sugar this season.
