Re: Swarm Trap... in the back of TRUCK BED?

Last year I had em checking out a swarm trap on the back of my truck, down at the bee yard in the empty 10 frame boxes and the other two swarm traps. They chose the one on the elevated deck.

  7. Re: Getting bees NEXT spring - how to become sustainable?

Welcome to the forum. I started by building some swarm traps. Got one swarm out of 9 traps.
If you catch one that would save the cost of the bees which could be applied to boxes and frames....

  9. Re: Is it considered standard practice to split a hive each year?

Why not split into a nuk. Then feed the nuk offspring back into the parrent hive. You have 2 queens laying and all growth goes into the big hive.

Re: I won a NUC !!! But it won't fit?

Or you could make med size boxes to put on top so they will expand upward. Using the med frames of brood to jump start your larger hives.

Re: Can I put fish in a water source?

Sure you can. And 2 will last longer than a single. Gold fish will eat the algea also. no aireation is needed if they have some shade and not too big a population of fish.

Welcome. A strong hive will take care of a limited numbers of them up to about 50 or so. When the hive is weak is when they are a problem. The oil trap helps.
