Yea, I've had mountain mint for the past several years. It draws all kinds of insects, including lots of bees. I've been able to divide mine every year with no problems. It spreads pretty fast.

Dragonfly,
I just bought two rosemary plants last week. I have heard alot of positives about them as bee plants. The tag said these would reach 2-4 feet tall, but I didn't think rosemary got...
I have several bee balm plants. Mainly because they bloom all summer and they're close to being deer proof! Bee balm has fuzzy leaves and steams that hold moisture and it is therefore prone to mildew...
I noticed the same thing with my hives yesterday. I walked out to my hives, not expecting to see much, and there they were flying around!!! It was kinda strange seeing them in the rain. And as with...
No expert here, just suggestions. Being as far North as you are I wouldn't assume that just because you don't see eggs or brood you have a virgin queen. Depending on her race she may not start...

Glad to hear that drobbins! I'm sure we've still got some cold weather in store for this winter but as long as it isn't too late in the season we should be in good shape.
No blooms here yet. Temps next Thursday supposed to get down in the teens! The year before last a late freeze came through here and pretty much wiped out the tulip poplar crop.
Anything in the mint family, plus lavenders and rosemary.

I use light colors (white, yellow, etc) due to HOT summers we get to enjoy!!
I was sitting out yesterday watching my bees and noticed alot of bright yellow pollen coming in. Maybe they've found some camelia bushes. I don't know of anything else that would be blooming right...
Ordered several queens from Wilbanks in June, excellent service!
I've ordered packages ,through my bee club, from Gardners over the past 3 years and never had a problem.

Thanks for all the info!!
Does anyone have any experience with these plants? I'd like to know if they do well in the South, how much sun exposure they need, etc.
Thanks,
Patrick

I add supers on top of full ones and I know people who bottom super. Both work. It does help to move a full frame up into the new super after you put it on top. The bees seem to move into it a little...
What has the temp been lately? They could just be bearding. That's when they gather on the outside of the hive to try and cool off.

I use wintergreen in my syrup all the time. Read that it's toxic to mites. Can't confirm that though. I usually put about 15-20 drops per gallon. Just make sure you use some lecithin granules to get...
